FT time

Not that this is important, but how often is the clock on FT's servers synchronized with a reference clock?

I get the impression that at least the FT Travel server's clock is running some 8-10 minutes behind today.

Living in Switzerland makes one notice those details http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

No updates... it doesn't pose enough of a concern to keep up on. When we had this server setup by our host, they set the time, and it's close enough for us.</font>

12 minutes back now... this would never fly in Switzerland http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

even in (my) Switzerland, only a clock that stands still, shows twice a day the exact time ...

My point is not to bother Flyertalk with petty request. It is just that:

- with a clock that 'loses' 1 minute per week, FT will be nearly an hour late in a year if left uncorrected. A constant 5-10 minute gap is not a problem. I would venture to say a 45 minute one on a board dedicated to air travel would not be desirable.
- most of us have digital clocks on their computers. After making a post, and noticing the last post is xx minutes old, one sometimes double-checks to see if the post has indeed been registered, especially since a (small) number of disappearing posts were reported recently.
- computer clocks are notoriously inaccurate. Many servers have one line of code added to sync themselves with a reference clock daily.

Many servers have one line of setup for their NTP software to sync themselves with a reference clock constantly.

FT's host site is just being bloody lazy.

Dear oh dear, what a drop in standards. A Swiss clock that is only accurate twice a day. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I agree, geting the time right on server can hanrdly be rocket science.
