Guess I'm just confused here... why should it or the user be deleted? It's a news post with people posting opinions about it afterwards. And this is bad, because...?

I suppose if we delete this one, the precedent it would set would mean we could free up half the disk space on FT! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm equally confused.

I am confused too ...

* confused why the authors think that such a ranking would be taken seriously
* confused why you think FT should delete that post and not just laugh about it

I too found the post interesting! Perhaps the reference is incorrect? In any case, thanks! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

As someone from the UK, I am totally embarrassed by this so called award, what a load of old rubbish. (And it wasn't me that voted for them either!)

Really can't find anything that would suggest this thread be deleted. Some personal opinions about the outcome but that is only personal opinion.

Like to assit if i can, but need more information.

When this thread first was posted, the link went to a "Page not found" message.

Is it possible that an offensive thread was deleted and the database gave that "Thread Number" to a new thread?

Camera Guy is 100% right, as a simple check of the time codes will show.

Darren posted this thread as all can see at Sept 26, and the thread that is linked there -

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum83/HTML/001191.html

Does not have its debut post until Sept 27 at 2.17pm.... i.e. that harmless thread later received the thread number once allocated to the thread below. (Not a good UBB feature IMO.)

The initial thread, as Darren's headline indicates was a ridiculous rambling heated illegal SPAM/chain letter deal post with many hostile comments to it.

The ACTUAL thread Darren and I commented on is (right now anyway) the sole inhabitant of the misposted threads Sin Bin:

Aha - thank you Sherlock(s)!

Darren Oct 2, 2002 3:27 pm

Sorry, thanks Glen. I have had a lot more going on in my life recently than to be reading FT every day, and I missed this thread, which is why I didn't reply. But the one that Glen linked to was indeed the one that I commented on.

I am honestly not sure why it went to the other thread, and I really didn't check it after I posted. I just used cut and paste. But since I never saw the page by dhacker before, I don't even know why it came up. Blame it on the aliens.

BTW, would have been nice to be sent an email asking why I would have posted something like that, since I don't think requests for removal should be taken lightly. I probably would never had read it if Glen hadn't emailed me just now.

Darren,

Do you happen to check off the box that notifies you when someone posts to threads you start?

That is one way to know when someone is questioning your post. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

It is also the way to know if you've touched off a flamewar. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I think I know the explanation. There was a spam user who posted one of those "get rich quick" pyramid schemes in several places on the boards. A few e-mails and posts caught Randy's attention on the matter and he and his staff acted quickly to remove the offending threads. For some reason thread number 1191 was re-used by the UBB software for a subsequently created thread in the oneworld forum, even though it shouldn't have. (Each time a new thread is created in a forum, the thread number increments, so one can tell that, for instance, thread 1190 is older than 1193 just judging by the numbers.)

Nah, too lazy for that these days. However for the record, what you posted is exactly what I said here 3 days back. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
