Refresh not very refreshing

Forgive me if this has been covered before, but I've not previously spent any time worrying about technical issues with FT since the new board went up.

With the old board, although you could use the current url, and get the forums in what amounts to a frame, with a banner menu over the top, many of us FT OT's (that's old timers) preferred to use the alternate "webflyer" url for access, which eliminated the banner and provided more screen space.

On the new board, the http://www.flyertalk.com/milesfr.shtml url does not change as you navigate through the board, and, as a result (not being an html-guy, I assume this is a result), "refresh" takes you back to the top screen. OTOH, I know there are web sites where "refresh" actually refreshes the frame you are looking at. It there any way to give us back productive use of "refresh"?

Try this, RichG:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forumcgi/Ul...assCookie=true

ess':

Ooooooh... that works nice.

The beginning of that url is what we all used to use. I tried it the day after the new board went up and it didn't work, so I figured it was down for the count.

Can you explain what the switches
action=intro and
BypassCookie=true
actually do?

It's code that allows the intro page to be refreshed.

RichG, they tell the system to ignore the cookie it's placed on your system and to treat your visit as the first time. That may have an adverse effect on the colors of folders and other visual indicators that let you know you've already visited an area, though.

How a refresh button works on a browser is dependant upon the actual browser, but the normal behavior with refresh buttons and framesets is to load the overall frameset again (which then pulls in the original page for it). But, again, this varies depending on your browser and operating system.

By simply using http://www.flyertalk.com/forumcgi/Ultimate.cgi I am getting the desired result, i.e. subsidiary pages refresh when I want, and light bulbs and folder colors seem to work properly.
