FT seems much slower

Hope it's just everyone logging on after the absence.

Eugene Jul 7, 2001 12:44 pm

Hmmm... It's as fast as it ever comes from here...

Randy Petersen Jul 7, 2001 12:46 pm

Looking over the live stats compared to normal traffic daytime on the weekend or compared to Wednesday - our busiest day - it seems we're in overload based on some pent up traffic. I think we'll be back to normal in a week once most people have caught up with things and enjoyed clicking around to the new things.

You would have enjoyed seeing the dial move real fast right at noon......

cordelli Jul 7, 2001 1:36 pm

Actually, I was going to say it's been incredibly faster for me today.

doc Jul 7, 2001 1:47 pm

Seems about the same to me! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

BlondeBomber Jul 7, 2001 4:04 pm

BlondeBomber Jul 8, 2001 10:19 pm

Like greased lightning here!!!!

UAL Traveler Jul 8, 2001 10:56 pm

Coming through nicely in Bangkok.

blairvanhorn Jul 8, 2001 11:36 pm

After a day of use, speed seems to be the same if not better (cable access).

The only slow down appears to be when you exit one forum to return to the list of forums in a given section (FT Miles, for example). The list of forums takes a bit longer to appear than before.

Seems to be v-e-r-y slow in last few days? All Forums.

Hunki Jul 17, 2001 4:17 pm

Kinda slow from the RCC in Orlando, however, what do you expect from a dial-up. Like the look, tho!

CoachClass Jul 25, 2001 6:00 am

Seems slow this morning - how is it for others?

dmfriedman Jul 25, 2001 6:49 am

Performance here has been outstanding this morning, as it has been since a couple days after the transition was completed. Search is about 10% faster, and posting is about 50% faster. Moving from forum to forum and pulling up threads is probably 75% faster for me.

Data have been collected using the most scientific means available: Very Rough Guessing.

[Putting on moderator cap]

This thread has little if anything to do with FT get-togethers. I'd rather not lock it down , but if y'alls would like to continue the discussion let me know so I can move it to a more appropriate forum.

doc Jul 25, 2001 1:35 pm

It need not be moved since it actually already appears here:

Today the site is beyond slooooooow. its dead stop!!! Can't even get to the United site. It takes 2 to 3 min to connect with any of the links.... when I can get through. I don't know if it is AOL or Flyertalk.

ROADRUNNER Jul 25, 2001 9:27 pm

This is for the Birds. So VERYYYYY slow!

And Time Warner replaced the Cable modem two days ago and was zipping alone until tonite on FT!

Perhaps we are in a 'holding pattern'!

SFOPIT Jul 25, 2001 10:21 pm

Very slow to me. I am on the west coast, btw. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

essxjay Jul 25, 2001 10:32 pm

Time to take this discussion over to Technical Issues.

dmfreedman .. wanna sell your Modem? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

If this dead slug is 'outstanding', I don't wanna be round for the slow days.

dmfriedman Jul 25, 2001 10:46 pm

I will take full responsibility for the performance issues on FT tonight. I had the nerve to claim unbelievably quick response times this morning, which had been true. But alas, the powers that be (no, not the FT folk!) deemed that I was having far too easy of a time getting through the site. Therefore, we have all been punished for my sin of having fast performance on FT. Our pennance shall be this painful night of not being able to access the UA forum, among other things. I humbly beg your forgiveness, oh FT gods. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

ldsant Jul 25, 2001 11:05 pm

This is INCREDIBLY slow. I'm not having any problems with any other site that I access. What is going on? And essxjay, this IS technical issues as the forum - at least it tells me that I'm in technical issues.

Anyway, what is the problem? Any responses to this? Thanks.

dmfriedman Jul 26, 2001 7:31 pm

To clarify, ldsant, essxjay moved the discussion here from another forum, including the note about moving it to Technical Issues. That's why the confusion -- that note was originally posted elsewhere (I believe the community forum). When a moderator moves a topic, the original topic stays, but it's locked for new messages. The entire thread appears to then be moved over to the more appropriate forum, so some messages may seem somewhat out of context.

We're sincerely sorry about the slowdowns... we can't get in ourselves to do maintenance work when it's like that.

We believe it's related to our server, which shares all our sites, including DealWatch, which peaks on Wednesdays and Thursdays. As much as we'd love to have a couple more servers to spread the wealth out on, we just can't afford it right now. The banner ads generate diddly for revenue, but diddly is always better than none I guess...

Thanks for sticking around during the slow times, though...
