Yellow Folders
In the old version of flyer talk, and in the current version when I first logged on, topics which had new messages since the last time I visited were depicted with yellow folders. After I updated my preferences, they are all blue. This does seem to be intermittent, as at least twice since updating my preferences, I have seen the yellow folders at the top of the list.
I find this to be a convenient feature, and I would like to see this feature reimplemented. |
mikel51 -- If you're talking about "FlyerTalk Miles" Board, this feature (indeed, very convenient) is still there, so the problem may be on your side (e.g., java scripting turned off). The other three boards is another story though...

See my response in the "3 technical questions topic" below and read the other topics in the Techincal Issues regarding username and password. I was able to solve the user/password problem by resetting the cookies for this forum only but the folder problem was solved for all 4 forums. Let me know if it helps. I know nothing techincal about computers but if you follow my instructions it may work.

Amazing NJ--Your tip about going to the flyertalk front page rather than the message boartd page made all the difference. Must be some weird quirk of programming. Thanks. But this necesity does seem to defeat all the convenience afforded by all the new pull down menus allowing us to jump from one board to the next.
Eugene--I use Internet Explorer, and I can't find any toggle to turn Javascript on or off. I assume it is on because most all java enabled sites that I visit seem to work properly. |
My folders are all staying blue even though my user name and password are being recognized whenever I post. I am running IE5.0 and would appreciate any help from my fellow FT'ers.
|
The tip discovered by Amazing NJ is to log off of flyertalk and then log on to www.flyertalk.com instead of using a bookmark directly to the discussion boards. Then you will have yellow folders in the first board you go to, but not the other boards.

I am still having problems with the yellow folders. Any other suggestions?

rssrsvp, have you deleted and then reset your cookies by using the "Preferences" link at the top of the forums?

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by dan at WebFlyer: rssrsvp, have you deleted and then reset your cookies by using the "Preferences" link at the top of the forums?</font> Also I just hit the Flyertalk Miles link on the bottom of this page and it brought me back to the main FT page, not the FT Miles page. <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by Rssrsvp: I have deleted and reset my preferences 3 times to no avail. Also on the old board, if I hit the refresh tab on my browser (IE5) it would bring back the same page (eg., if I was on the Delta board, refresh would bring an updated Delta board page. Now when I hit refresh, I am being returned to the main FT page, www.flyertalk.com , this is very strange behavior.</font> <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Also I just hit the Flyertalk Miles link on the bottom of this page and it brought me back to the main FT page, not the FT Miles page. </font> |
Dan, I have www.flyertalk.com bookmarked and that always brings me back to the main FT page. Sometimes when I receive an email telling me that I have received a reply to a topic that I have posted, I go straight to that thread. I am experiencing the refresh problem both ways. I am using IE5.5.

I am using IE5.5.</font> I think what was happening was:

you go to http://www.flyertalk.com
you start surfing in one Forum, say FT Dining, so that the entire frameset is the Dining frameset (the title at the top of your browser says "FlyerTalk Dining Forums")
then you decide you want to check out FlyerTalk Airports, so you select that forum from the drop-down menu at the top
before this weekend, that would have loaded the FT Airports forum inside the Dining frameset, so that when you do hit refresh, the Dining frameset reloads, pulling back in the FT Dining forum, instead of the Airports forum you were just viewing.
I believe we have all the links to the various forums fixed now so that they load in their own framesets. This means that if you navigate laterally between forums (using the drop-down menu), new framesets are loaded. Now, if you refresh from within a particular forum, the worst that will happen is that you'll be returned to the front of that particular forum, and not flyertalk.com's main page. As with the old FlyerTalk site, the best method for navigating within the forums is by using the tree navigation up there at the top right to move around inside a particular forum, and to use the drop-down menus to switch between the four forums. Are things still acting up on you? |
