Problems with Chat Today?
Has anyone else had problems accessing the chat room today? I keep getting a message that says:
DigiChat could not connect to the specified host. Please verify that the DigiChat Server is running and that you are using the correct host name. java.net.socketException: Socket closed ------------------ danville 1K |
no - i had no trouble - just left there and there's a bunch of folks there - try closing out of everything and come back in?
|
I was there as well, both yesterday and this morning and all seems to be well for me. Can you tell me if you were receiving any particular errors? Also, what operating system are you using? Lastly, what is your browser type and version?
------------------ ThanX... Michael at WebFlyer |
Michael,
Not sure what the problem is. I can log on fine through my employers server, but not via earthlink or AOL. Not sure quite how to sort it out... but my employer frowns on me using his server for this purpose. ------------------ danville 1K [This message has been edited by danville 1K (edited 01-13-2001).] |
I have been having problems too. It may be my computer. When I log on to chat I get a message "Java memory error". I don't get that in any other java chat apps.

Michael, I had a similar problem earlier this week and emailed FT about it. I'm an Earthlink DSL account and running Windows 98 SP2 & IE5.01
I was finally able to login Friday again, however tonight I received the following error message: "An unknown error occurred while connecting to the Digichat server. Please report the error to [email protected]. java.lang.exception HttpServlet address not specified." I would really appreciate it, if you could devote a little time and look into what is happening. With the big DL chat coming up on the 18th, I would not want to get shut out. Thanks again for your help. [This message has been edited by Rssrsvp (edited 01-14-2001).] |
Thank you all for the feedback.
Just so you all know, I'm pretty much concentrating on the LiveChat exclusively for a couple of days or so and hopefully all will go well. Can I get you guys to do me a favor? Can I get you to log onto the chat tomorrow morning at say 10:00am Mountain Standard Time? I'll be on at that time putting everything through it's paces. If you could, it would be very helpful. If you want to spread the word that would also be helpful. ------------------ ThanX... Michael at WebFlyer |
Michael - this is like taking your kid to the doctor - they get well when you're in the office! In spite of our enjoyable chat today when of course everything worked beautifully, I logged in tonight fine, chatting away with my friends Jon Toner and Jailer, and suddenly I can't see my posts.. suddenly I get the java popup w/ an error message saying there was a java error - socket read failed or some such.
Wait - it gets worse - this time when I tried to close out the chat window, it hung and when I chose ctrl-alt-del to find that, in fact, it was not responding, I selected end task and got BLUE SCREEN! I had to completely reboot my system. This is getting worse not better - get help soon! |
I haven't been able to get into the chat since last week, whats up?
No error messages,I just get the screen: "FlyerTalk Live! doors are NOW OPEN FlyerTalk Live! will enhance your community experience with open chat rooms, private chat rooms, and fully moderated open auditoriums for special public events. Simply allow the Java applet to load and you will be logged in. Once inside you're able to customize everything from your icon to user profile by clicking on the settings button. Enter any of the chat rooms and START TALKING." [This message has been edited by Old Gold (edited 01-31-2001).] |
Starting last evening once again I can't access via my Earthlink account, but can via my employers server. Argghhh http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
Help! ------------------ danville 1K |
Well, its back working again this morning. Thanks to whomever took care of the problem.
------------------ danville 1K |
Still can't seem to get Chat working, getting an error message that the HttpServlet address is not found. I've even cleared out my Temporary Internet files on IE 4.72. Please help! Thanks...
------------------ Regards, - Anna |
Well, its back to the same old same old again..... unable to access once again this afternoon.
------------------ danville 1K |
I cant acess either. Interesting that danville, anna , and I all have earthlink...
|
Had a problem on 2/1 again. Michael, please look into this ongoing problem. I am a Earthlink DSL user which really should not have an effect on this issue. I was able to join the 1/18 DL chat without any problem.
Thanks. |
Sorry it took me so long to get back with you guys. Is this still going on? I ask because I logged in earlier and everything seems to be fine with me. What kinds of errors are you guys getting? All the same or are there some variations here? I may have an idea as to what is going on.
Your feedback is greatly appreciated. ------------------ ThanX... Michael at WebFlyer |
Michael,
I still am unable to log on. I get the error message "An unknown error occured while connecting to the digichat server. Please report the error to [email protected] . java.lang.Exception: HTTPservlet address not specified" This happened all day yesterday and thus far twice this morning. I've pretty well given up accessing the chat site. ------------------ danville 1K |
Come on Johnson, what'd you do to Live Chat?? I haven't been able to get in for the last week. Using IE 4.0... keep on getting the same message as others:
java.lang.Exception: HttpServlet address not specified |
I'm still getting the same message as everyone else. I've received it using both IE 4 and IE 5.5. Any update on this yet? Thanks!
------------------ Regards, - Anna |
Hey wannabedoc (there's a new handle for ya!).... guess it was my magic touch... now you know why no one at work will allow me to get close to their computer http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
More likely they've banned all the trouble makers from chat (you, me, AnnaS). What can I say? ------------------ danville 1K [This message has been edited by danville 1K (edited 02-05-2001).] |
I think someone else already uses that one and other similar ones.
Less than 100 days and counting. No more pretending. It's down to CLE or HVN. |
Alright.... New Haven or Cleveland..... a Yalie or a ????
Good luck to you. I hope you get the location you want the most. Now, how do we get FT to get this thing fixed? ------------------ danville 1K |

Here's the response I got from DigiChat:
We have received many such complaints over the past week or so. This problem is related to the slow connection times between many of our users and the chat hosting machines. The problem lies somewhere within Alter.net and not with our host or the machines themselves. We have informed all involved parties, and are working closely with our host provider, DellHost, to isolate and resolve the problem. We hope to reach a quick and complete resolution. Thank you for your patience. If you have any more questions please let us know. |
Brent,
This is almost identical to the response I received about a month ago. But, as you know, not much has changed since then. ------------------ danville 1K |
Well, for the first time in weeks, I'm in chat. Will miracles never cease???

I could access chat fine while everyone else was having problems, now I've been having problems the past 2 days. All yesterday evening, the chat applet would not load, and then it would load, but I'd get the httpservelet message like everyone else. Then about 10pm EST, it finally loaded correctly (albeit very slowly) and I could get into the chat. Judging from the others who showed up, they were having problems too. Now today, its not loading the applet again. Using Mozilla build 2001020808 under Redhat Linux 6.2, kernel 2.2.14, Java VM 1.3.0_01.

FWIW, I couldn't get in at all last night but was able to this evening..
2/13/01: And last night it took me six attempts to get in - said "applet not found"... [This message has been edited by svpii (edited 02-13-2001).] |
