Posting date stamp

Sorry about the misleading topic. Can't seem to edit or delete it now.

Which begs the quesiton ...

Only forum leaders (Administrator, Moderator) or the person that posted this message may edit this message (and only registered users may edit/delete posts)
Note: Only forum leaders may delete posts.
What is the purpose of the Delete? checkbox in the upper left corner if only Forum leaders may delete posts? Is it there for them? Why do you not allow the person that posted this messageto delete it?

(1) The checkbox can't be selectively enabled--remember, the edit screen comes up not knowing who you are.
(2) If the person who starts a thread deletes the original post, the entire thread gets deleted. Someone decided this was a Bad Thing(tm), and the only way to prevent it is in fact to bar any non-admin deletions of posts.
