no more android app? [no - no current plan for Android app]

Didnt even know about this forum until i stumbled upon it this morning... my android app has worked (mostly) fine for as long as i've had it, but starting this morning it won't work at all. Searching led me to the ios thread, but that doesnt mention android as far as i read. Am i now forced to use the annoying mobile site instead of my simple to use app? The app gives a 'required client information missing' message now (version 1.5.1)

Same thing for me also used for over 2 yrs n/p now cannot ???

Badboy7 Sep 3, 2014 11:50 am

I have used it since then too. It is much more difficult for me to read on the regular website with the scrolling and zooming. I do hope they bring back the app. I wonder if they just turned it off completely or if it had to do with the Android update yesterday.

IBobi Sep 3, 2014 12:10 pm

Try m.flyertalk.com.

000 Sep 3, 2014 1:11 pm

Ditto. Same issue.

Please can we have this back, the mobile version of the site is awful in comparison to this brilliant app.

raybolt Sep 3, 2014 5:17 pm

no more android app?

Well it seems to be working again for me as of now, don't know what the problem was this morning

Badboy7 Sep 3, 2014 9:07 pm

Yes it seems to be back online. Good thing you checked again raybolt, I was almost going to uninstall it :( . I use the app on a daily (sometimes hourly) basis to get the newest posts and I don't know what I would do without it.

Result! I was actually feeling really lost when it wasn't working.. probably says a lot about me!

Working again for me too.

Thanks a lot!

SkiAdcock Sep 5, 2014 11:03 am

Not sure IB had anything to do with it since their suggestion was to use the mobile version of FT, but glad it worked out :)

Cheers.

I have a new device and can't find the app in the Play store or Amazon.

The app is considered unsupported at this point, so it is no longer offered in the app stores. We hope to have a new mobile solution before too long; meantime you can use the full site, or the limited m.flyertalk.com.

Realize you can't give exact dates, but is 'before too long' Q4 2014, Q1 2015, sometime before the end of 2015? ;)

Cheers.

It's high priority, and there are other biggies tech is working toward. If I had to guess I'd say by early 2015, maybe sooner.

Thanks for the update. Fingers crossed!

I didn't realize the app was no longer available until I switched to a new phone today. Is there any update on a fix date?

Pretty disappointing to not have an Android app. The mobile site isn't very functional and using the full site on my phone is much harder on my eyes, to the extent I likely won't go to this site while on my phone anymore.

It's in the works; sorry for the inconvenience. Admin and staff are mostly taking a well deserved holiday. I'm sure they'll announce the debut of the new Android app.

I use my LG (Android) with FT all the time, though I certainly prefer my iPad.

Glad that works well for you. I have difficulty with the regular site on my phone due to my body's lack of neurological cooperation, not for lack of trying on my part.

Thanks for the response, hopefully we hear from IB before too long.

A search on the Play Store is offering an app called "Flytalk" which states clearly that it is not affiliated with the Flyertalk website, but appears to be intended to give access (albeit without the ability to sign in).

So far it only has 100 downloads ! Has anyone tried it ?

emkay Jan 24, 2015 12:55 pm

any update on the app?

There is no plan for an Android app. The new mobile interface is still in production at this time.

Why not? And what happened over the past few months to go from "it's being worked on" to now "no plans"?

I don't suppose there is a reliable ETA for the "new mobile interface".

MilePoint has very nice apps for both kinds of devices.

Frankly, site-specific apps are a dying technology. What we are and have been working on is a *mobile skin* that you'll be automatically sent to when you log in from a mobile device, whether it be iphone, android, tablet, etc.

Nor mine.

If they can actually pull off a legit mobile version then it would be fine.

So what's wrong with supporting Tapatalk? I use it for most of my forums that I partake in. It makes worlds of a difference in terms of how I often I partake in those particular forums. Would be a real benefit to this forum Imho.

It does sound like that's where they're headed at IB.

If there are no plans for a new android app, can we have access to the old one to manually install? I just reset my phone this week and learned the app is no longer available. That's pretty disappointing... It wasn't the best but it worked just fine to browse what I needed.

Edit: nevermind, I went here and it installed even though I couldn't find it in the play store:http://go.flyertalk.com/android

Hi there. First post but thought I should let any future FTers know that the link Hoyt posted is no longer valid. Bummer. Was looking forward to using the FT app for my Android for my upcoming Paris trip. Will have to install on my iPhone then. :-\

acvitale Jul 22, 2015 11:59 am

I just upgraded to lollipop and lost the menu functionality. I lived on that app when flying. The mobile website and skin approach is so 80s. I am not sure who decided not to support a site specific app but it is making me think that milepoint has the right idea.

Very disappointed.

I see an app just uploaded to Google Play store today called "flyertalk" by devproapps_android. It has the right logo but only one download so far! Is this a legit FlyerTalk Android app?
