Google banner ads with audio!!!
I realise FT has to generate revenue in order to survive and thrive. But, are ads with repetitive explosions of sound really necessary? I've only noticed their arrival in recent days, and they are annoying as all get-out, here or on any other site. So, I'd kindly like to drop a suggestion in the box - can we please lose them? Pretty please?
Also, on this page right now is one (without sound) for something called Bad Idea T-Shirts, which to anyone peering over my shoulder would look like a porn link. Not very classy, & borderline NSFW. Yes, I'm well aware I can install various ad-blockers, but I've never felt the need until now, with ad content on FT moving way way off topic... Thanks in advance :) justakiwi |
You would be surprised how much faster and more enjoyable all your web use can be without ads. Give Firefox browser (or Chrome browser) with ....... a try, I'll bet you never go back.
That said, any ads with autoplay sound should definitely be banned. |

Anytime you see an ad that is objectionable to you, please screen shot it and post it here in the tech support section -- or PM it to me -- and I'll have it blocked. We can't screen every ad that is shown on FT before it goes up, so often we can only catch the bad ones like the one you're describing after they've already annoyed someone. The good news is, I've not once had someone say an ad was annoying and not agreed with them ;)

I just got an auto-play audio ad displayed on FT from SlingBox. Most annoying.

Audible adverts on Flyertalk
Over the last week or so I've noticed that when I open up Flyertalk a couple of adverts begin running. They are video adverts and you have to find them to stop/pause/mute.
I'm sure I'm not alone in working in a serious business environment and it is not very professional to have these blaring out (I cannot mute PC as various squawk services come through it) Is this a new long term arrangement for FT? Is there a way to opt out or disable them? |
There is an existing thread about this... perhaps they should be merged?
I don't get these annoying ads because I have an ad blocker... personally I think that audible ads that come up automatically should be made illegal... and the same goes for talking web sites. |

There is one that says you have a message waiting. It sends the same alert my wife uses for receiving a Facebook message.
It was probably funny watching me try to find which browser was open in a tab/window I couldn't see for a minute or so- unless you were me. |
