Flyertalk Android app updated

I really didn't see this coming. I think it was over a year since the last update and I thought it's not supported any more. Thanks for the work!

Now that we know someone is still working on this, I'd like to make a few requests:
* (from the list of threads in the forum main page) A shortcut to go to the either the last page and/or the last unread post in a thread.
* Favorite forums -- it takes a long time to scroll down to some of the forums at the bottom, especially because they are a level or two down in the forum hierarchy. It would be nice to be able to tag forums as favorites and be able to go to them quickly.
* Better "Top" threads -- this might be a problem with the backend, not with the Android app per se. The "Top" thread refreshes very slowly. For example, as of now, this post is still being listed as one of the top threads even though the mods have closed it 6 days ago (and moved the discussion to a different thread).

Bugs:
* It looks like the Euro sign (€) is fixed in most cases. However it's still not displayed right in some cases.

Glad you like the update! Let me respond to some of this.

1. Since you can do this by clicking into a thread and clicking First Unread, and since there isn't much room in the thread listing for more buttons, I think this functionality is unlikely to change.
2. If you subscribe to a forum, from the HOME page in the app you can select SUBSCRIBED and see your favorites.
3. This functionality is constantly evolving, and as you suspected is not app-specific.
4. Do you have an example link of where it is not displaying properly?

Great update! I actually know who responded to whom now. =)

Flyertalk Android app updated

not sure why but anytime a large thread grows by another page I get an error when I try to go to the last page. ie if the thread is 95 full pages and one post on the 96th it tells me I don't have access to the 96th page. so instead I have to click on page 11, 21, 31...91, 96. (or else just wait until there is a second post on page 96). not sure if it matters but my profile is set to show 40 posts per page.

I actually have this problem on my laptop's browser. It usually happens on very large threads.

This issue is addressed here:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/techn...last-page.html

We're hoping to fix it in a future version of vBulletin; rest assured, there are no posts that you can't see. It's a pagination issue, not a hidden posts issue.

Good to know, thanks for the info.

Thanks for the reply, and sorry I have been super busy last few weeks and didn't have time to reply until now...

4. Do you have an example link of where it is not displaying properly?

2. I don't quite understand... I have tried subscribing to a few forums but neither these forums nor new topics from these forums show up under Home->Subscribed.

4. See post #10, 20, 22, 24 in this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/germa...d-germany.html)

I suspect that this is an encoding issue. For example, in this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/china...87-wechat.html), the Chinese characters are displayed properly in the forum post list, but not in the post itself. And same for the Japanese in this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/japan...te-na-shi.html).

Other issues:
* I found that links to other thread within Flyertalk tend to not work. For example, in this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/credi...scription.html), there are links to other threads within FT for good credit card deals. If you click on them, the app wants to show them in a browser, which is not optimal but not a big deal, but the url used would be wrong. For example, currently the first link is to the AirTran Chase credit card (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/airtr...2-credits.html), but if you use the FT app, it would prepend another chunk of url to it (and make it something like
Code:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/!1392061!http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/airtran-airways-rewards/1392061-new-airtran-credit-card-targeted-offer-32-credits.html
). As a result, the browser wouldn't be able to open these urls correctly.

* Misc graphics not showing up
** e.g. there are a bunch of pictures in these threads that are missing (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ing-avios.html and http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ad-sticky.html).
** The "trophy cups" for various forums, e.g. under the airlines subforums, the AA, BA, and CX, etc should have trophy cups but they are now showing something like a default profile picture.

I never bothered to download the app on my new phone because of prior annoyances. Is there a "My FlyerTalk" link now?

MyFlyertalk is just the title of "User Control Panel"; the control panel, your subscribed threads and other features are available on the Android app - but in as far as it being "My Flyertalk" - that's not there explicitly.

Thank you

Similar issues here -- I subscribed to a few forums and I see no where on the Home page to jump to that forum. I see a way to set the filter to "subscribed"

Need some step by step help on making this work?

Also how to you jump to the last post of a thread?

thanks

Once you are in a thread, you can press "Go to Unread" at the bottom. It doesn't always go to the last page though.

skitch23 Nov 2, 2013 8:26 am

Not a fan of how quoted posts are displayed in the thread. Now I have to click on the post to see who is being quoted. Please return it back to the way it was before the latest update.

I'm confused - can someone post a screenshot of where subscribed forums and/or threads are listed?

Hello joshwex90,

If you go into Forums --> MyFlyerTalk --> you should be able to see your subscribed forums/new threads.

joshwex90 Nov 4, 2013 2:11 pm

I was referring to Subscribed Threads/Forums on the Android app

Oh, right. Haha.

Only way I can see my subscribed threads are by clicking on the "Subscribed" button on the bottom.

joshwex90 Nov 5, 2013 1:45 pm

That needs to be worked on - it's still not clear which of those threads have new posts and it doesn't seem there's an easy way to see first unread post like on the main site

swy Nov 8, 2013 5:33 am

I noticed that there is another update yesterday, and like previous releases, the "What's new" section only says "Many, many major bugfixes!" Would it be possible to have a list of changes? It would help us to figure out what are actually changed. Thanks for considering.

Flyertalk Android app updated

I thought the new app would resolve a certain bug I see when replying to a PM. basically I have to enter the handle again.

did no one report this?

thisiswilks Dec 21, 2013 4:29 am

Hi All

I searched Flyertalk Android and in the results I am taken to the Play Store but I assume because I don't have a US or UK Play account I am unable to see or download the application.

Can someone help me understand why I don't see the app in the Store?

Thank you.

Aus_Mal Dec 21, 2013 5:23 pm

App seems to have gone missing from the play store (Android 4.3, UK). Still works though, so not an issue for me.

gretchendz Jan 5, 2014 7:34 am

Not for me

Ok--is that an android screenshot? Mine does not look anything like that--and I cannot find a subscribed button....

Does anyone have an idea on how I can grab the Android App? Can someone upload an .apk file for me to download ?

Thank you

I second that. Finally made the jump from Apple to Android but the flyertalk app is nowhere to be found. Any help with this would be appreciated.

IBobi Jan 7, 2014 12:16 pm

At this time the app is not available due to problems with some basic functionality. We do not have a date when a new app or skin will be ready, so for now the mobile solution we recommend is to simply view the full site on your mobile browser.

Thanks IBobi. Please come back and let us know when it has been released?

IBobi Jan 8, 2014 12:21 pm

Will do! When we have our next mobile solution ready to go, we will be excited to let you know.

Any update on when the new android app will be available?

tzoom84 Apr 8, 2014 7:57 am

where can i download the Android app? I don't see it in the store.

IBobi Apr 8, 2014 2:08 pm

The app is no longer available, or supported. Recommendation is to not use the app, but to use the full site on your mobile browser until we have a new mobile solution.
