I'm seeing it now -- Jackal, it's in the top RH corner when you make a new post in the iphone app.
After you hit the plus sign, it should give the option to "Insert: image/video". Is that not happening for you, anabolism? Working well for me... |

Ha, at least, that is what it is supposed to do!

Checking with tech about why the image does not post... Most users in most forums are not able to add an attachment directly to a post. Users must upload the image/video to a separate hosting service and then link (inline for images or as a link for video) to it in a post. Perhaps it's a permissions issue, then? Though I would have assumed that you, as an admin, have the ability to add an attachment to any post anywhere, and as such it should have worked for you in your test post above... |

I see the plus sign when reading posts, so I didn't realize it was to make a new posting. If I click it I get a top box and a bottom box for keywords. I don't see anything about inserting a picture.
As such, the "add content" that's referenced in this thread now refers to "body of post." Maybe that should be clarified... |
I have the latest, 1.0.2 released May 28. Looks like we may have a functionality that is currently built into the app but is not supported by the site (which is fine) -- except that does not explain why you two are NOT seeing the "insert photo/video" function.
Just to be sure, you: 1. Open a thread 2. Click the "+" button in the upper right to make a new post, opening up the two white boxes that say "add title" and "add content" 3. In the "add content" box, you do *not* see the round "+" sign in the upper right? (clicking on this brings up the "insert" function) Correct? Also, are you using iPhone 4 with IOS 4.3.3 or an earlier version? |

Also, are you using iPhone 4 with IOS 4.3.3 or an earlier version? Can't find the FT app version anywhere in the app (I thought it displayed on the splash screen before, but I didn't see it just now), but the app is not listed in my App Store updates tab, so I assume I have the latest version. OK, here's what I see: 1. Open thread, click plus sign to add new post 2. See a screen with three buttons across the top (Back, Home, and Submit) 3. Blank fields below labeled "Add Title" and "Add Content" 4. Grayed-out field at the bottom labeled "Tags" (with the word "None) BUT: 5. If I tap in the "Add Content" field (i.e. to type in it) and then click "Done," now I see the blue rounded plus sign in the upper right corner. 6. Tapping that plus sign pops up a menu with "Insert: Image | Video" Just to be sure, I tried this in a forum I do have permissions to add an attachment in (the private TalkBoard forum), and the attachment did not post. I did note, however, that when I navigated to the TalkBoard forum and then clicked the new thread button, the plus sign appeared instantly (as if the app recognized that I had permissions to include an attachment in that forum), but the attachment (a .jpg image from my phone) did not post. |
Hi Jackal,
Thanks for the follow-up. I am experiencing very similar behavior (I found the FT app version by browsing to it in the app store -- I don't know that it's listed in the app itself). I also doubt that it has anything to do with the minor IOS version change between us -- I think it was just an Apple security hole they closed. I'm following up with tech, but I think probably what will happen is they will fix image posting in the next app version or they will just eliminate this function as it is seldom enough used anyway. I'll post updates as I have them. Paul |
Little bit of a bug report:
I was helping someone sign up for FT today using the iPhone app. Noticed a couple of bugs:
Then being dumped on the home screen with a list of new threads instead of forums is kind of jarring--it gives no sense of the organizational scheme of FlyerTalk (this became apparent as I was trying to walk this new user through FT). I would suggest considering making the forum listing the default home page and retitle the current "Home" screen to something like "Hot Topics" or "New Threads" or "Subscriptions" or something. Hope the thread content view is fixed in the next version to show marked-up text instead of the raw BBCode, which is also confusing for new members. But still #1 on my priority list is synchronization of the "first unread post" function. :) |

I think Twitter patented that particular motion (pull-down-to-refresh), so either royalty payments would need to be made or a more standard refresh button would need to be added, but yes--I agree it's necessary.
I just realized I still had the beta version installed on my phone, so I deleted that and added the updated App Store version. I was hoping some of the shortcomings I've asked about had been fixed, but nope--it's still virtually unusable to me (without the go-to-first-unread-post feature) and is now cluttered with ads. :) |
can't login using iphone app
I tried on Iphone an Ipad (latest OS) - I can use and read stories just fine.
However when I'm logged in it always gives me the connection error. This happens when I'm using wifi (full signal strength) and 3G. The same issue appears on my ipad. http://filetemp.s3.amazonaws.com/pictures/photo_ft.PNG Any ideas? |
Any plans of displaying what forum the messages are posted in? Example: when you first open the app and read a "Newest" post, you have no idea which forum it's attached to.

I have yet to be able to connect to the forums. Every time I try to navigate around I get the following message:
"There appears to be a connection issues between your device and FlyerTalk. Please try again." Happens all the time regardless of whether I'm connected with 3G or wifi. Invalid Access Token Any thoughts? |
Error appears to be connected to those accounts created through Facebook Connect rather than through the FT site; try converting your accoutn by following the procedure here:

Aww i wish this was for droid as well..
OH SNAP! there it is! awesome!! |
Two questions....
I am unable to see a link to a poll's results when viewing a thread on my iPhone 3gs (running iOS5). There is a thread in the private TalkBoard forum about electing a TB President which has a poll and I am unable to see the link for the results either looking at the post itself or tapping the post to go to the page where I can reply but If I go to FT via Safari on my iPhone, I can see the link to the poll results (and this happens in other (non-private) forums as well). When replying to a post (either by quoting or a non-quoted reply), in the lower right of the reply area, there are icons for smiles, bolding and etc but they interfere with/overlap the text that I'm typing and I can't seem to "make them go away". (and humor me as I'm new to the iphone so maybe I'm missing something) |
When some refers to a link in a post, the iPhone app doesn't take me to the correct link. I see flyertalk.com link twice.
|
Hey guys - Have only been using it for about a month but the app is fantastic. The best forum app I have come across thus far. Nicely done. :D

I'm glad this forum exists because I was planning to create my own.
This website and the iPhone app are both terrible. The idea of this site is excellent of course, but its implementation needs to be better. Website: --The search feature is horrible. Easier to do a Google search external to the website. --The text editing in html is really useless unless you have experience with HTML. --Private messages where you choose to send an email (rather than PM) to someone disappears. I.e. if you email someone via FT, you have no record of it after you hit the send button. --Forums and threads get so large, that you can't find what you're looking for easily. For example, if I want to see the latest Marriott promotions, I have to search the entire Marriott promotions thread (since the first post is from years ago). The problem is, the last post isn't always the information you need...usually it's someone commenting or complaining about something...not actually the information you need. App: --Connection errors ALL the time even when there's no connection problem. --Can't see what forum a message is in when in the "newest" tab. i.e. if someone posts "maximizing miles from DEN-SEA", I have no idea if the message was posted on the DL forum, the UA forum, the F9 forum, etc. --Clicking on links that open the Safari browser are often broken. You have to "quote" a reply, highlight the original link, and copy/paste it into a browser. --You can't compose a new thread to a specific forum. For example, if I click the new button and type my message, it won't let me select a sub thread (e.g Delta), and it also won't let me select major threads (e.g. Airline programs). The only ones it allows in "Miles & Points" is MilesBuzz, Hotel Deals, Mileage Run Deals, and SPAM. Can't post to Airline programs, Global airline alliances, Hotel programs, etc etc. |
Mp app is an iPhone app. Flyertalk app is not designed with iPhone in mind, but it works

I think it would be very helpful if posters could choose between an "information" and "comment" icon/button for their post. Then, at a minimum, one could try and look at just the "information" posts when reading. Or, the web site could offer an option to collapse/scan a thread by hiding the "comment" posts, perhaps with a disclosure triangle. |

Anabolism - there is a google search parameter call inurl . Since ft is split by forum numbers you can search by forum this way.
The problem is that google is not required to make all posts searchable. |
Clicking on other forum links within a forum post still don't work. I reported this a few months ago.

I am having the same prompt come up so can't get into Flyertalk using the app and I do not have Facebook.
I have deleted the app and reinstalled it. Still not working Any suggestions as to how to fix this? Thanks. |
This morning the app kept crashing so I re-downloaded it. Now I can't log in and it keeps saying there is a connection issue while I'm clearly good connected with both 3G and wifi. Concerns a 4S with latest iOS.
Rebooting and redownloading doesn't help. |

Please check -- ought to be resolved as of 30 minutes ago :) |
Include post title when reading
Not sure if this has been covered (searching through the iPhone isn't exactly useful), but is it possible to show the post's title while reading?
|
I'm just wondering...is there anyone out there who actually works on the many FT app/website problems? Is someone paid for this or is it a volunteer position?

"The folks you see with red handles starting with "IB" work for the company that has the same initials." I asked the question because I'd gladly throw in a few bucks if it would get "IB" to fix these problems. |
Flyertalk iPhone App Feedback
