TP opens 3 further routes in 2020: LIS-MCZ, LIS-YUL, and PDL-BOS

LIS-MCZ is a new route, operated thrice weekly with departures from LIS at 17h15 in A321LR.

LIS-YUL was previously operated by TP and will be resumed next year. The departures from LIS will be 5 weekly, at 14h55, and operated by A321LR

PDL-BOS is also a service resumption, but there are no details regarding equipment or frequency.

This North American growth is really amazing over these last 4/5 years.

PDL-BOS is somewhat of a bizarre one, as Azores Airlines (S4) already operates it. Find it weird there is no better use for an LR

Anyway I'd go for a different approach than S4 in terms of schedule:
Early morning departure for PDL-BOS (8:00-10:00)
Return end morning BOS-PDL (11:00-20:00)

with this schedule they can almost tag a LIS-PDL vv at the beginning and end of the PDL-BOS with the same A/C.

Indeed! The problem is how sustainable, or not, all this growth is.

If I'm not wrong, they haven't mentioned it will be operated by an A321LR. And being a low yield route, I wouldn't expect it being operated by such equipment.

That'd be a good move. They will increase LIS-PDL to 5 daily too.

You're right, but with Europe full of LCCs, Asia not really and option, the BLR so devalued, this revenue in USD,CAD seems to be the only positive type of growth possible.

Could TP do that in a non-LR? ETOPS and other stuff (not familiar with all requirements)
if yes, then the day time flights is almost a must.

True, you have a point there.

I'm almost sure they can. And S4 is operating non-LR A321s on the same route and on TER-BOS.

The schedule for the PDL-BOS flights seems to be:
PDL 16:15 - 17:55 BOS
BOS 22:30 - 07:20 PDL

That's what S4 does. I flew them LIS-PDL last year and it was a through flight to BOS. It seemed like a good number of through LIS-BOS passengers too from what I could tell when I got off in PDL.

Just saw the press release (PDL-BOS, YUL and Maceio) from TP. Title indicates it should be the LR

Company opens three new connections in the Americas with the Airbus A321LR
in the middle of the press release there is a funny quote from the CEO on the LR
“[…] This aircraft, the A321 “LR”, which I occasionally claim stands for “Lisbon Range”, is a true game changer. The way to travel between Brazil and Europe is now more modern, efficient and environmentally friendly. […]

right on the money as usual tff. airlineroute publishes today that schedule and operating days and confirms the A321LR

TAP Air Portugal from June 2020 plans to resume Ponta Delgada – Boston route, after 19 years of service cancellation. The Star Alliance carrier plans to operate this route from 04JUN20, on board Airbus A321neo LR aircraft.

TP219 PDL1615 – 1755BOS 32Q x25
TP220 BOS2230 – 0720+1PDL 32Q x25

This route was last served until March 2001.

Per airlineroute BOS-PDL in the winter season will go from 5 to 3 weekly.
TAP Air Portugal in winter 2020/21 season plans to adjust Ponta Delgada – Boston frequency, previously not covered on Airlineroute. From 24OCT20, this route will be served 3 weekly in winter season, instead of 5 in summer season. This route will be resumed on 04JUN20.

Following schedule is effective 01NOV20, subject to Government Approval.

TP219 PDL1525 – 1720BOS 32Q 146
TP220 BOS2210 – 0715+1PDL 32Q 146

The schedule of the third daily LIS-NYC is now available, but operating to EWR instead of JFK (as it was initially meant to):

TP207 LIS 1930 - 2230 EWR
TP206 EWR 0005 - 1225 LIS

Interesting timings. Do any other airlines have eastbound overnight transatlantic flights departing the U.S. after midnight?

Also interesting westbound because it bad for connections in EWR with a 2230 arrival from LIS. Lots of domestic U.S. connecting opportunities on *A / UA via EWR, but not that late at night. I know there is a huge Portuguese community in Newark but it seems like they are leaving some money on the table by depending only on EWR / NYC O/D traffic.
