Archived: Should there be a dating forum within FT? (v 1.0)

I'm looking to re-enter the transfer market after a lengthy lay-off, so to speak, and I was wondering about the feasibility of a dating forum within the site we all love so much. I'm sure we've all experienced that momentary quivering of the loins as we're reading a spectacular Trip Report, or a fruity frisson in the femur as a regular FTer posts details about the latest delivery of Fokker Fergusons to BD. It would be great if there was a forum in which we could connect in a more intimate way with those who share our passion for flight; somewhere to exchange photos, arrange dinner dates, brief but romantic rendezvous in RCCs across the country etc. Surely I'm not the only one who would relish such a forum.

Transferring this to TalkBoard Topics where new forum requests are normally discussed.

Please follow at it's new home.

Thanks.

Isn't that the role filled by OMNI/PR?

^ I think plain OMNI has been the more flirtatious forum in the past; PR is the OMNI Fight Club.

I'm not sure I agree

well maybe if we toss in a little religion and politics with the broom closet but otherwise

it is a never ending topic though

Considering that FT has generated a couple of marriages, more than a few casual hook-ups, and goodness knows what else... I think it is fine without a dating subthread - just start going to FT events, then if the people you meet are not too scary then start posting your own.

I always thought that's what the Itineraries Forum/Calendar was for? ;)

A dating forum? Is this really what FT has become? Sorry but with all due respect OP :td: from me.

With all the drama already present? Oh God lets NOT !

patgarrett Jan 20, 2009 7:42 am

Come on guys, this is an absolute no-brainer. There is clearly a demand for this, despite the curmudgeonly responses of some older FTers who know they'd be left behind in the race for the real prizes.

This is the way to go. I really don't think that we need yet other dating forum.

Anybody can join i.e. Facebook and browse thousand or so FT members who have registered to the FT group there.

Is it April 1 already?

Drama is best observed in person, with significant amounts of alcohol in one's system, and not directly involving oneself. :)

This reminds me that I have not been to an FT event larger than a lunch or dinner gathering for some time now.

Where would be the best DOs / FT events for meeting a special lady friend?

Perhaps I'm being a little judgmental as I've never attended one, but I picture them being attended by many more men than women (at least a 6:1 ratio). Obviously as a witty and smartly dressed young lad I'd like to think I'd have an advantage over the anoraks, but do any women attend these things who: a) don't look as though they've been chasing parked cars, or b) have no convictions/official warnings for loitering around coach stations or train platforms, or for harassing pilots or bus drivers?

Mofomat Jan 20, 2009 4:02 pm

Seriously. If any do's or events are organised in the future, it may be useful to indicate if you're a female and whether you are attending, that way the lads know where they stand and if they'll go home empty handed.
