What he said. And btw - at the risk of sending some FTers off  I don't think technical issues are part of TB's mandate. Geesh. OVMV.

Cheers.

The question is why the TB doesn't have purview over search. It has purview of smilies, supposedly, so why not this particular piece? Both are technical implementations, no?

This is an infrastructure issue. Not a usability or "metapolitical/user interface issue." I don't know how many people on the Talkboard are professionally qualified to address it. I personally know of at least 5 who are not qualified to do so. I fail to see how pointing out the obvious (notably that a large number of people prefer the old search), nor hassling the people who have explained the problem (sounds like load induced by the old code) and are working to fix it is a productive use of the Talkboard's time, and from where I personally sit I'm positive that it's outside the TB's purview.

Moreover, I'm pretty certain that a public company is not going to do things which involve the potential expenditure of nontrivial amounts of money or labor because the Talkboard votes as such. If it does, beware the shorts :).

Outside of user experience, do you have any particular background or authoritative voice to support being so demonstrative?

What they are fixing is one of the more difficult pieces of any web app (search) to fix.
