It's a good point and I agree. The vote/poll should stay open, but the result (yay/nay/"x is elected") is over and done with and that much could be communicated. Final vote counts should not be taken until all TB members have voted, or the voting period ends, whichever comes first.

I dunno, I still like my black smoke/white smoke idea. Beats ragging on lucky, who is a decent guy -- and I think most all who have met him would agree.

I'm also not going to reveal whether I have voted or not. The TB presidential election has traditionally been immune to outside pressures - and I think that it would be more important to keep it that way. I'm sure that some of you are finding it very frustrating that we are kind of holding (and yes, I do think we are holding - I think there is something I would have moved by now in normal business, but I won't on another point of principle since the officer elections are the first order of business) - but I think that there is a bigger principle at stake than this one election, so I, personally, would rather draw a line in the sand and keep the TB elections an entirely internal affair, except for updating you on why nothing else is progressing from the public board.

How can kokonutz even throw his hat in the ring if he is suspended???:confused:

{removed non-allowed comments - wharvey}

Second, where is this "two weeks" rule defined?

Thanks.

So wait a second. Are you saying that TB is ignoring Randy's wish to get going with business??

No, and in fact I'd say that the internal business we are taking care of right now (both voting AND discussion) is going to be very important for how the TB functions for the next term.

OK, then we just need a bit of clarification from Jenbel.

The two weeks duration for all votes (except emergency cases) was in effect when I first joined TalkBoard 4 years ago. I believe that it was part of the decision noted on "Town Hall" as "New TalkBoard Guidelines" but not having access to the private TalkBoard Forum anymore I can not be 100% certain.

Unfortunately, in trying to reach the record of that decision I am told "There seems to be an error with this page. If you continue to see this message, please contact [email protected] ."

Thanks for the info. It is my opinion that these kind of procedures should probably be written down in a public space, like the guidelines. What do you think?

I agree, they should be. In fact, I think that it is only a technical problem which is keeping us from seeing these procedures.

I can tell you this: Since the first day I served on TB, there was a rule that all votes were kept open for two weeks unless all TB members either cast their ballots earlier. There was only one exception to this case, in which Randy asked for a very quick decision on a particular issue.

Theoretically the only way that would be possible is if the deadline to run for VP would be on or after the day he gets back. Short of that there is no way.

So you understand, then, why we know somebody is dragging feet here.

No, in fact I know exactly the opposite. The rule covers all TB members, including Kokonutz. If Kokonutz can not vote, for any reason at all, that in itself would be enough to keep the polls open for the full two weeks.

Not according to Randy and Spiff in another (now deleted) thread. They said that since kokonutz "technically" hadn't been seated, that they were moving on with business.
