Let's throw out another Forum Request- Thailand

Sure, Thailand doesn't have the future that China does for tourism and business but there is a bunch of discussion about Thai topics in the "Other Asia (Non-Japan)" forum. I feel that separating out topics on Thailand will help consolidate info and also give Thai "experts" an easier time to help out.

in the last 75 days, there have been 39 threads about Thailand...

Whaddaya say TB?

Tricky part is that just looking at the titles of those 39 posts - 9 include references to other SE Asian countries - nearly a quarter of them.

Not sure how this would be reconciled (this doesn't surface so much on the London and Japan forums which I'm most familiar with). Other than that, I'd be happy to see a Thai forum too.

It only makes sense to have a Thailand forum. It's a hugely popular destination. Mileage runners dream of their next trip here. :)

I was wondering if FT would consider creating a dedicated Thailand forum apart from the Other Asia (non-Japan/China) section. Today, the topics covering Thailand and a few cities like Bangkok & Phuket have received considerable traffic.

There have been 64 topics on Thailand in the past 100 days.

Thank you for considering this.

Some useful background research - thanks chexfan. Wish all members came so well prepared with actual threads and stats. ^ :D

I am going via BKK to Vietnam for Xmas.

I got most of my info on the new airport and airport hotels there etc from the Thai Airways forum to be honest.

There was a lot of info there. Bit it should be in a Thailand forum I agree.

I agree Thailand is a popular destination - not just BKK but the very popular Phuket/Krabi type beach resorts and the Golden Triangle area - Chang Mai. Chang Rai, Mae Hong Son etc.

If I see some more support here I'd be happy to suggest TB looks at this. @:-)

I would seriously consider this.

magiciansampras Oct 19, 2006 6:52 am

Sounds good to me! For once we actually have demand and need shown. Good stuff!

kokonutz Oct 19, 2006 7:55 am

It makes me ill to admit that Checksfan is a better lobbyist than me, but there it is.

I'd read and use a Thailand forum...

doc Oct 19, 2006 8:12 am

I also believe that there is merit to this suggestion, so I've brought this to the attention of the TB for further discussion.

Mark

You'll only read the threads on Patpong Road though. ;)

Seems like TB will be voting on this very soon. :-:

Football Fan Oct 19, 2006 11:03 am

I'll support it if I still get to vote on it.

Dovster Oct 19, 2006 11:22 am

Muang Thai? Dee Mach!

(And if you can't understand that, you haven't spent enough time in Thailand so you really need this forum.)

Allow me to assist Dovster in displaying his knowledge of Thai language.
Translation: "Thailand? Very good!" :)

I, too, would support a forum focused on Thailand.

However, the guidelines for a Thailand forum must be more strict than the rest of flyertalk.com.
There are laws within Thailand forbidding any criticism of the king, queen, or other members of the royal family: les majeste.
Those laws are enforced with zeal.
In addition, the government here is now a military dictatorship, and prohibits criticism of its policies.
So, if a Thailand forum is initiated, the moderators must adopt zero-tolerance policy about criticism of the royal family or the government.

One might well ask, "Why?" since flyertalk.com is not hosted in Thailand.
The reason is that the Thai police routinely block web sites they deem offensive.
This is no idle threat.
As I write this post (October, 2006), Thai police have blocked 3,836 web sites from access in Thailand for reasons of "Threat to National Security".
All
of flyertalk.com could be blocked from hotels, Internet cafes, and business centres everywhere in Thailand.
For travellers visiting here, that's when they need access the most.

- Peter

I'll spare y'all the typical 'Why'd you vote the way you did and you know, if the TB forum were open...' question THIS ONE TIME! ;)
