I hear a lot of discourse about this "race," but I'm not really convinced that it is happening. Do you have any evidence?

Also, why does it bother you?

Just a thought...

Cheers

If post-padding (e.g. the examples you gave) is noticed, the moderators already have the ability to take action against those who exhibit a pattern/history of such post padding.

Some points to be noted:

1. The candidate with the highest post count, Doc (45,676) tied for 5th place with ScottC (30,814) and Bhatnasx (4182).

2. Gleff, who finished first, had a lower post count than 5 other candidates.

3. MissyDarlin, who finished third, had a lower post count than 10 other candidates.

4. VPescado (1786 posts); Marathon Man (1819); John C (458); nxs (3212); and RadioMan (510) all came in ahead of Camera Guy, who had 3266 posts.

Don't underestimate the intelligence of your fellow F/Ters. They judge posts on their contents, not on their frequency.

Well you know what they say about statistics Dovster. ;)

Another than your point #4 which is indeed a most interesting stat (love that bolding!) the top 10 vote-getters had among them at least 4,182 posts per member. reading figures from your table.

My guess is the percentage of those posts gained in OMNI from those top 10 vote-getters were maybe a few % - if that. I know in my case it would be more like .001% and not even 1%, and several others in that list of top 10 vote-getters would be the same I think.

As spiff points out, any overt post padding Iin OMNI (or anywhere else) seems to be quickly spotted by mods or other users, and action taken.

May I ask one simple question, why does it bother someone so much that posts count in OMNI?

Are we all that naive to believe someone with a high post count in an internet forum?

Post count numbers can be manually adjusted, someone believing that post counts are relevant to the intelligence and integrity of the individual is sadly mistaken, and his parents should remove his/her myspace.com account :p

Please, we know that is not true, just look at the people with high post counts in this thread ;)

It would seem that some folks around here feel that they must protect the Internet forum newbies from the dangers of thinking that someone is smarter or dumber or wiser or simpler based on their post count.

OMNI has been very quiet tonight. :)

I like the TB decision(s) on this one. Kind of wish the tabling of post count talk motion had passed, but it was unlikely to do so. Good job!
