I wonder, however, if this is realistic - - I assume that Randy would want to keep the overall post counts high for ad revenue purposes, so deleting a huge numvber of posts from the count would not be in his best interest (but I admit know little or nothing about how the advertising rates actually works, so help me out if I'm wrong). |

* excluding Kiwiflyer :) "Most* of the people who post a massive amount in OMNI" who "don't see there is a need for a change" -- why is there a "need for a change"? -- would just post in the other travel forums and/or "Community" ones if "post count" was a motivator. That said, I think my previous post said what I wished to say. :D Would some people be happier just deleting OMNI -- posts, post counts and all? |

post counts or not :p
(No I am not running for talkboard and don't put any weight into actual post counts when checking out is someone is credible or not. I have found some of the biggest trolls are those with high numbers of posts) |
I have only ventured into OMNI-land once or twice. Many of the frequent posters there with 4,000,000+ posts I had never even seen before in my daily viewing of Flyertalk (since spring 2003). I sometimes almost think of it as two different boards.
I also often look at a Join Date, see it from 1998, but they only have 1,000 posts. Even though someone has 9,000 post since they joined in January, I still value the "wiser" FTer. I do sometimes, though, come across a newbie who probably flys laps around most memebers here, and there posts reflect their experiance. Not all FFers have found FT....yet! Just my 2 cents. (And YES, one more post!) |

Dino My question - to those who favor change - would be, what has happened that a "need" has arisen to change the status quo (i.e., what "problem" has suddenly popped up out of the blue that has been created, in some way, by displaying post counts)? How would the change "resolve" the "problem"? Will this change improve the FT experience, have no impact, or will it detract from the FT experience? FT, to date, has been pretty dang successful. I don't think we want to be tinkering frivolously or pointlessly with something that clearly works for the vast majority. |
