I personally

MapleLeaf Aug 26, 2005 4:19 am

don't care

MapleLeaf Aug 26, 2005 4:20 am

if we have

MapleLeaf Aug 26, 2005 4:21 am

post counts or not :p

(No I am not running for talkboard and don't put any weight into actual post counts when checking out is someone is credible or not. I have found some of the biggest trolls are those with high numbers of posts)

NWA_5479 Aug 26, 2005 5:18 am

I have only ventured into OMNI-land once or twice. Many of the frequent posters there with 4,000,000+ posts I had never even seen before in my daily viewing of Flyertalk (since spring 2003). I sometimes almost think of it as two different boards.

I also often look at a Join Date, see it from 1998, but they only have 1,000 posts. Even though someone has 9,000 post since they joined in January, I still value the "wiser" FTer.

I do sometimes, though, come across a newbie who probably flys laps around most memebers here, and there posts reflect their experiance. Not all FFers have found FT....yet!

Just my 2 cents. (And YES, one more post!)

Being serious for a minute though I take back my statement that most people who post in OMNI dont like the idea, I have been proved wrong. Peace to all.

You went back and counted? (Smiley expressing amazement)

Just for the record, this discussion pops up from time to time since before I became a member.

My question - to those who favor change - would be, what has happened that a "need" has arisen to change the status quo (i.e., what "problem" has suddenly popped up out of the blue that has been created, in some way, by displaying post counts)? How would the change "resolve" the "problem"? Will this change improve the FT experience, have no impact, or will it detract from the FT experience?

FT, to date, has been pretty dang successful. I don't think we want to be tinkering frivolously or pointlessly with something that clearly works for the vast majority.

Whatever OMNI is, I can't post there.

sharkshooter....you probably don't really want to know what OMNI is but you'll be able to see the forum after 180 days as a FT'er....which you've already reached....and 180 posts.

No one answered so I will see for myself. Prior to this post my total was 661.

Edited to add: Now it is 662 and a padded count!!

I had to look seen as it blew a hole in my statement but since then you have changed your mind :) and said it shouldn't make any difference, so I renew my comment most* people who post in omni who have posted here dont want a change :p

Once upon a time (with the previous software) posts to the same thread on the same day did not increase your post count. Obviously that is no longer the case.

Dino, planning on becoming an OMNI-ite too (or joining me as mostly an "OMNI-hanger on")? :D

Post counts should go the way of the game winning RBI in baseball as they have about the same meaning.

Dino2020 Aug 26, 2005 3:03 pm

Nah, I dont have time to post in there, I dunno how people find the time to post 40 times a day :D

For the record, GUWonder was at one time a prolific (in terms of volume) OMNI poster.

Some habits die hard.

You just posted 40 times a day — see your most recent milepost in this thread.

Where did you find the time?

I was very bored one night or 2 when I didnt have a lot on so I tried playing a daft game in omni but got very bored after 2 nights i think it was :D

Think them couple of nights on that game pretty much totals my omni post count

That answer is incorrect.

The correct answer is that you found the thyme in the spice cabinet...

That is sage advice for anyone else who wishes to pepper FlyerTalk with padding mileposts in threads, but I would simply take it with a grain of salt.

This entire thread would be the basis for a great Shakespearean drama. He could call it Much Ado About Nothing.

I believe that you are judged by what you say, not how often you say it.

A wise man who proclaims himself to be a fool may feel foolish if he is wise enough to realize that he is indeed wise, in a foolish way.

However, if a fool is wise enough to recognize that he is a fool, he is foolish to admit that he is wise enough not to be a fool, when in reality he is too foolish to admit that he is wise without looking foolish.

Then again, a wise guy is usually too foolish to realize that he is a fool and not a wise man, which makes him look too foolish to anyone other than fools who think of themselves as wise men instead of foolish wise guys.

Can a fool fool a wise guy who is too foolish to realize he is not a wise man, or can a wise man wisen up a fool who could or could not be a wise guy in a foolish sort of way?

Although fools tend to be foolish about becoming wise, why is a wise guy not foo-fooed as a fool if the fool is fooled into thinking that he is a wise man?

None of this may matter anyway, as wise men and fools may appear equally foolish to many women anyway...
