Airport forums

Can anyone explain why there is a long list of forums for local talk at various airports (which don't get a lot of postings) when those postings could go in the travel destination forums? Combining them would make it faster to search for area information.

I'm in agreement with this. I think that consolidation here might be helpful for finding information (and requesting it from other FTers).

I also agree, and if I may say this much without being scolded for breaking "confidentiality", the TalkBoard is aware of the issue and, even though I am not speaking for anyone else on the TalkBoard here, I think it is not out of the question that there might be a discussion and recommendation from the TalkBoard.

Shoot me if I already said too much again by revealing this "secret" .

missydarlin, if this was a breach of confidentiality or something, I'll edit my post...I guess.

Has this been discussed? I've noticed over the past month or so that more and more threads are popping up in travel buzz that, technically, should be in one of the destination or airport forums. I never know if I post a question in one of these segmented forums if people will see it or not--or which forum to post it in since airport questions are asked in destination threads too.

Consolidation would make it much easier to get/give answers and for cleaner searches.

An observation..

For australian airports, almost all queries get posted in QF forum and for NZ airports the NZ forum. A few also get posted to South Pacific forum.

The 3 oceania airport forums get very little traffic and queries can languish for a while before being spotted by someone.

The last I heard, I think Randy said he was going to make a more dedicated effort to making folks aware of the local forums, starting with a communication to all members on the subject.

That was sometime last week, I believe. Perhaps it is in the works?

Assuming the local forums stay, what about combining destinations, local talk airports, and dining into regions/states/countries so information isn't so scattered?

What about tiered reorganization by region:
e.g. 1st level Asia, under asia, the countries
2nd level China
under the country, the cities (or states for US, canada, australia).
3rd level Shanghai
under city: airport, dining, entertainment, and maybe others, all in dedicated forums to each subtopic.

My personal opinion (not speaking for anyone else): Seems to make sense to me, but perhaps the third level should either not be segmented at all or only be segmented for very few major cities (e.g., New York, London, Tokyo)?.

This seems like a lot of extra forums. I'd limit them to one per city or state to make searching faster.

The TalkBoard is considering this matter.

I wanted to get some more users' input on this matter before beginning discussions.

Thanks!
