ENOUGH ALREADY!
Amazing... I go to sleep... and this thread blows up. This thread will now be closed as it is obvious that certain members seem intent on taking it off topic. I will take the time later today to go through the threads and make whatever edits/deletes I feel necessary. Some members can also expect personal messages. If, for some reason, someone feels that have a question or comment on the original topic, you can start another thread. William |

William I've deleted all of the off topic commentary, and am reopening the thread. If you have questions regarding moderation, feel free to contact myself or Randy offline. This thread is to address Moderators on the Talkboard. If you have anything to say about this topic, feel free to post. |
Just thought I'd post my own personal experience.
I was the first dual Moderator/Talkboard member. I haven't yet experienced a situation that seemed to represent even the slightest conflict. And I've never had any members, moderators, or TB members suggest to me the possibility or appearance of a conflict in any issue that has arisen -- moderator issue or TB issue. This doesn't mean that none could ever exist. Just that in my year serving in both roles, I haven't encountered difficulties. This may be asking for trouble, and I suppose folks can now search through all of my posts looking to play gotcha. :D  |
Whether a person is a moderator or not, I believe that we should elect the most qualified individuals for the Talkboard. IMHO, all of this conflict of interest talk is just stirring the pot.

Of course being a moderator and a TalkBoard member can put someone in a conflict of interest situation.
So can being an Israeli and a TalkBoard member -- or a Gay person, a lawyer, a doctor or an alcoholic. It all depends on what issue is being discussed. I don't really think I need to give examples for any of these as you can all think of them as easily as I can. I am not a moderator but I ask that nobody vote for me with that as his reason. If you think I will do a good job on TalkBoard, please support me. If you think that others -- moderator or not -- will do better jobs, then please cast your votes for them. |
Dovster,
^ ^ ^ Very well put!!!! ^ ^ ^ Everyone could have a conflict of interest, what is important is how they choose to deal with it. When I served on the TB, I seem to remember some members who felt they had a conflict on a certain issue abstain. They were self-aware enough to know when they should not participate... As I recall when I served on the Talkboard... and as others have mentioned, the Talkboard does not deal in issues affecting Randy's "STAFF". He has indicated he is not looking for that from the Talkboard... and they have chosen to respect that request. If I were a suspicious person, I might think people are putting up this argument so that there are less people running for the Talkboard and their chances go up. I agree with Dovster... let the people decide. I believe the members of flyertalk can make an informed decision. William
