If we are in serious need of a "welcome party" on FT perhaps we could consider appointing some people to be part-time support posters, people who post support and help and welcome new users though without moderator powers...

That said, I also think it is the "duty" of every member on the board to be helpful and welcome new users.

At this point, I'm just looking for a support group. Therapy anyone?

Thank you Oz for that link.

That is exactly the type of lockdown that I would like to see avoided on FT. There was very valuable and, for me, educational information being exchanged in that thread and then...................WHAMO! It is locked down and I am not exactly sure why.

Do the Moderators have discussion prior to decisions of this nature? This seems to me to be important in these "iffy" situations.

A regular reading of threads recently at the UA board would be highly informative as to why that thread was shut down "WHAMO" (and after two pages and almost 70 posts). This was not, in my opinion, an "iffy" situation: it involved some of the "usual suspects" and tone of other recent threads that have gone south and clearly seemed headed in that same direction.

Thank you Blair for supporting my view on that thread. Indeed it seems to always be "the usual suspects"...
