How about adding 'Search for this user's posts in ALL forums?
I know that sometimes I can't remember all of mine from yesterday/ last week & I want to see what others have added since my reply.
Now it's available via e-mail only if I am the original topic-starter. ------------------ Play the travel game 3 vacations into the future! |
A useable, but not super elegant workaround: Keep a file with a list of threads you wish to track. Each time you reply to a thread, copy that thread's URL to the clipboard and paste it into your file.

I agree, many other board systems offer the option to "monitor" replies to it even though you are not the original thread starter.

Brendan, the search function used to work that way, but it was a terribly slow (even with a DSL or T-1 connection) and cumbersome process and, as I understood it, tied up a lot of FT resources as well.
I miss that function sometimes, but must admit that FT overall works a lot faster and better without it. |
Oh-so-thank-U!

I'm a little confused: I thought this was possible? If you look at your profile (not through logging into your profile, but by looking at a post you made and clicking the view profile icon) you can then search for "all posts by this registered user". It takes a while, but achieves what you're looking for, I think?
Have I misunderstood the question? |
Oh-so-thank-U, Wingnut! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

No you didn't misunderstand, Wingnut you just knew something that I didn't know. Thank you for that insight.
It is still, however very, very slow. |
Punki, of course it is slow when you ask to find all of a user's 1000+ posts. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Actually, it is slow even if the poster only has two or three posts over the last three years. The problem is that is has to search through every forum, and, even then, I don't think it picks up the really old stuff. The oldest posts I seem to be able to acces are those from later in 1999.
Does anybody know how to go back further than that? [This message has been edited by Punki (edited 11-07-2002).] |
I believe (but not completely sure) that you'd need to run a separate search in the FT Archives board.

I recall being recently interested in researching more of the interesting saga of FUKUCHAN and his posting history on Flyetalk in the early days:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum72/HTML/000650.html I am not sure which Forums I searched via, but his posts all indexed for me somehow. ------------------ ~ Glen ~ Calling all United 1K Members - please join .. www.1Kflyers.com |
Are you sure? I just tested it and found that I had to do a separate search on each board (FT Miles and FT Archives) to catch all the results. I suppose I would have to do the same for FT Travel too, because some threads were moved there when newFT first debuted.

Thank you, Few Miles, you are exactly correct and that solves a great mystery for me. I have been trying to find twiz's first post (at least the first that I read), regarding Happy Meals, which I knew was in 1999, without any luck at all. There it is, however, moved to Travel Buzz from what was formerly "The Buzz" as I recall.
For those of you who don't know him, twiz (now at age 13) is the youngest, and possibly the brightest, FlyerTalker I have met (not to mention the cutest). He will soon be featured on Good Morning America, reporting on airplane water quality. |
