And, I would love to know whether there are helicopter rides between close cities. Would be very interesting alternatives going from downtown to downtown in close by places esp Europe.
OT, but there's helicopter service between NCE airport (very close to Nice and along the sea) and Monaco. They might also serve Cannes, Antibes, etc.

Discussion of balloon rides would seem to belong in the respective destination fora.

Sure. I'm not the target audience, but why not? No downside. As long as a mod is willing to do the work, no skin off my .................

Yes for Private Jet/alternative travel forum!

I would be interested in a Private Jet forum.
Thanks,

After reading all the posts in this thread, I'd say I'm in favor of such a forum.

One of the arguments against it is that private jets (and propeller aircraft as well, when you think about it) are not miles/points programs. To counter that, I'd say that applies to roughly half the forums currently existing.

Yes, some of the programs do accrue points in the programs of their parent companies. Most do not. The more important point, though, is that most forumites probably aren't even aware of these as options.

Some concern has been expressed about the amount of traffic in such a forum. I think traffic would be slow, at first, but it would grow as forumites become aware of it. My own opinion is that such a forum belongs in the Special Interest Travel area, but because of the links to some airlines I'd recommend an announcement in the usual locations, but also a limited-time (3 months, maybe?) sticky in the fora of the airlines involved (we've heard about Delta and JetBlue; are there others?).

I guarantee that I'd be interested in private jet travel if it were within my means; it's getting better all the time but we're not yet to the point where it's feasible for just one or two travelers who fit below the high-end tail of the income bell curve. Like many of the airline fora I look at even though I'm not likely to ever fly those airlines, I'd find the material to be intresting.

The topic of "hard drive space" comes up periodically in these threads, but if you read back, I don't think that topic has ever been mentioned by any TalkBoard member as a stumbling block. So it is completely a non-issue.

It has absolutely nothing to do with hard drive space. It also rarely, if ever, has anything to do with worrying about the infrastructure and whether there will be a moderator willing to take it on (if not, it just becomes moderated by the Senior Moderators).

It has everything to do with what I posted upthread: whether taking the discussion of the proposed topic out of existing places it's discussed and sequestering it in its own, new place will lead to a better quality of discussion. That is what TalkBoard members must be convinced of in order to support a new forum.

That has zero to do with storage space or server capacity or anything else.

FWIW I have never once worried about server space. However I do believe this is a good idea. Obviously it needs to be fleshed out but I'm supportive of it at this moment.

Cheers

I think this is an excellent idea.

For instance, I know a number of people in the SF Bay Area who use Surf Air regularly, all of whom also travel frequently on regular scheduled air carriers. Not suprisingly, most of them are also GS and 1K's.

I once met a female SurfAir pilot who was flying to work on Southwest.

I was searching around for threads that would be appropriate, and I was surprised at just how many potentially relevant threads would fit Alternate Air Travel. This includes threads about Private Jets, Supersonic, Space, and Miscellaneous. Not to mention the recent JetSmarter and JetSuite threads.

is there any specific data TB would like to see that could be compiled via searches?

looks like there will be lots of threads starting up about jetsuitex scheduled charters

as i said in one of these threads, i recall a lot of related discussion on FT in past 10 years

In my opinion, if it is unique to a particular airline or destination, then it belongs in that forum. Otherwise, it seems like a good fit for Alternate Air Travel.
