I posted this yesterday in the private TB forum and thought I'd post it here too for the sake of crowd-sourced input:

I guess I just don't see Uber as a 'shared ride' service. Carpooling and slug-lining are shared rides. SuperShuttle and Tokyo limousine buses are shared rides.

UberX and Lyft are amateur taxi services. Uber is a black car service. Personally, in the US I use Uber for some black car services, and other limo companies for other black car services (like airport drop off). In London and Asia I often use private taxi services, especially Addison Lee in London.

So I think 'shared ride' as a forum title muddies more than it clarifies.

Further, Taxi Magic and other apps provide app-based traditional taxi ride services. Public taxis discussion, it seems to me, belongs in the destination forums. But I could be dissuaded of that notion.

So. Since I criticized I now have to offer a suggestion. Here's the best I can come up with:

Ride Services Beyond Public Taxis
Uber, Lyft, Limos and Private Car Discussion

Given that this involves (non-automated) hired car/driver services, one can hope that no one is asleep at the wheel.

I like that as that can cover a wide range of car transport methods.

The way it reads I guess it could include buses, etc. Is that what we want? Or do we want:

Ride Car Services Beyond Public Taxis

Well, we used to call those livery services in Brooklyn car services — such as Remsen Car Service, for example — so I do not see why not...

I think Ride Services will rank higher in web searches. I've never seen the term "car services".

Google search for "ride services" returns #1 Uber, #2 Lyft
Google search for "car services" returns #1 Uber, but Lyft isn't shown.

I think "beyond public taxis" is awkward and doesn't enhance clarity.

Ask a New Yorker and I'll bet the opinion will differ. That's all I heard for my dozen years there. Or "black car service" or "Town Car service".

But I would go with Ride Services, too.

Well everyone's google experience is different. But I don't hate 'ride services,' just trying to be as clear and accurate as possible.

Do you not like 'beyond public taxis' because you think public taxis belong in the forum? Or do you just not like that fact being stated in the title of the forum?

#2. I think forum titles should be defined by what they include, and the forum description (which can be updated periodically) can mention exclusions if experience shows that they are required.

Koko, dare I ask if you are concerned that people might get confused that lap dances might be included in a "ride services" moniker?

Transportation Network Companies is what the CA Legislature used in the insurance bill.

5431. (a) As used in this article, a “transportation network company” is an organization, including, but not limited to, a corporation, limited liability company, partnership, sole proprietor, or any other entity, operating in California that provides prearranged transportation services for compensation using an online-enabled application or platform to connect passengers with drivers using a personal vehicle.

Actually, I would say
Ride Services
Uber, Lyft, Limos and Private Car Discussion
is the best. We can also include taxis as in the Uber app and other apps you can also order a taxi. This would allow us to cover all types of ride services be it apps like Uber and Lyft, ordering taxis, shared rides, private car services, etc.

My latest suggestion, after looking at the descriptions for these companies, is Mobile App Based Transportation Companies Such as Uber and Lyft.
