At least the ads could be funny:

SWM seeks 1K with SWU to go to SIN

I do not believe we need such a forum... but I also do not have a problem with the thread in question.

We have a member who made an honest request... and started a hornets net. We have threads of people asking for all types of assistance... this is just another one. It was posted in OMNI.... that place is for everything that is off-topic elsewhere...

In all honesty, I cannot think of a better place for a travel oriented person to find someone....

I do believe this is a non-issue.

Shouldn't such threads be at home in CommunityBuzz?

CommunityBuzz
The official get-together page for the FlyerTalk community as well as topics related directly to the general membership of FlyerTalk.
Seeking dates on FT seems like a "get-together" topic if there ever was one.

Folks, there was a single single ad type thread in Omni recently by a Fter that is probably the first in 4-7 years of that type, that basically everyone other than TrojanHorse took in good spirit, was fluff. Evidently TH was so irritated by it he decided to start other threads and bump this one. He's not posted since yest in the others because doc savage pointed out that if he didn't keep bumping the thread on omni it would have already been on page 2.

If TH is serious about asking us to create a new forum he can do some of the homework we ask others to do when they request new forums as mentioned above, but quite frankly I expect this to die down relatively quickly.

Cheers

Isn't this a Practical Travel Safety Issue? Hooking up with strangers from around the world as you travel?

It could also go into the Dining forum since many dates involve dinner or food in some form.

TS&S and DiningBuzz haven't had dating threads like this. But CommunityBuzz had at least one such thread well before OMNI did.

My apologies for any possible inconvenience to anyone, but this new discussion has been split off from the older (2010 and prior to) "version 1.0" thread so discussion can begin anew, "de novo" or on a clean slate so to speak, devoid of previous discussions as well as possible characterizations, mischaracterizations, attributions and assumptions about FlyerTalk and it's members.

Members wishing to read that thread may do so in Archived: Should there be a dating forum within FT? (v 1.0).

Thanks,

JDiver, Moderator
