I do recall the airport forums, occasionally with fondness. Those few airport forums which had a lot of traffic were great resources to really understand how to get the most out of an airport, and it is a little more difficult to find that information in the destination forums, today.
That said, many of the forums had little traffic and getting questions answered in those forums was difficult, because they weren't well monitored by FT members.
Decisions have to balance the good with the bad, and I think, overall, it was the right decision to eliminate the airport forums and merge them with the destination forums.
