Moved by RichMSN and seconded by goalie:

“Talkboard recommends creation of an Air Berlin forum”

This vote will close on January 20, 2012 at 1:39 pm or after all TalkBoard members have registered their vote, whichever comes first.

Per the TalkBoard Guidelines:

A motion shall pass if at least two-thirds of the yes or no votes cast by TalkBoard members are ‘yes’ and a majority of the total TalkBoard membership votes 'yes.'

The purpose of posting voting topics in the public TalkBoard Topics forum is to solicit member feedback on any motions that are up for a vote and to allow for comments after a vote is made. It is at the sole discretion of the individual TalkBoard members whether they choose to post in the public discussion thread, there being no requirement to do so.

So while there is already a thread and discussion on this general topic and it is safe to assume that TalkBoard members have reviewed that thread, this thread is about this specific motion.

Point of order, Madam Vice President/Secretary: while I support this motion, I did not second it.

My only slight worry- as we need 6 of 9 votes - is that the background material, and community input might be insufficient when moving quickly.

Moving quickly is in any case good on non controversial issues, like if there seems to be a majority already on TB- then why waste more time.

In any case its not the end of the world if its not created- it will eventually be:D

That is for sure. But even now they increased their connections to e.g. AA and you can collect miles with both FFPs.

The schedule of the OW integration is only about four months away.

The way the air berlin is developing the UK market, I for one would like to see a forum for them. Whislt at the moment it wont help me, I can see opportunity to use them in the future.

Any airline that advertises on Metro North trains between NYC and Connecticut deserves a forum, IMO. :D

Would AB be considered in the league of Ryanair and EasyJet?

Absolutely not.

For example: Comparing the domestic and european product of AB to LH the only difference is that AB doesn't have a domestic C.

Any airline that has a FFP and has an active following (even if a small one) deserves a forum at FT, and does not deserve to be placed in the bowels of a generic forum for years and years until some of the TB has a relief of its constipation (or a change of its makeup). That is the spirit of Flyertalk.

For the naysayers of new fora, after years of being marginalized, and being given the brushover my much of the TB for years, this is the LAST 30 DAYS ONLY of the LANPASS forum, started in late September. I don't know how badly the cut/paste job will show, but these are topics from the past 30 days for an airline forum that was not deemed worthy by the TB until just over 3 months ago.

I appreciate this post. I've always thought that approving a forum that disappointed was less bad than ignoring a forum that needed to be created.

I'm of the mindset we can always get rid of forums if necessary. Most forums, in some form, should be given a chance.

I fully second the idea. Air Berlin is a by far bigger airline than others here and the clear number two on the German market. They are the number one in some German markets and have an extensive European network and last but least a nice FQT programm.

A definitive YES for an AB forum. AB is quite a unique airline, it's one of the larger european carriers, and it has the interesting topbonus program for which knowledge on the web so far is hard to find and exchange with other members would be especially interesting...!
