Proposal: send some indication a 'reported post' is received

I've reported several posts in my time here on Flyertalk and many times never seen anything done nor received any indication they were even received. I'd appreciate at least a, "Thank you for reporting, we'll take a look," type of message were sent out.

What is the current procedure (if any) of moderators to reply to these warnings?

I've received thank-you e-mails from moderators every so often, maybe one out of every three RBPs I send. I appreciate them, but I also appreciate how much time the mods already put in on a volunteer basis and wouldn't want to require them to do this.

I think you can pretty much assume that, if you click the button, an RBP will get there.

It seems like most of my responses come from a couple particular mods. The other times if I don't get a response and I don't see any edits I just figure the mod did not feel the post warranted a change.

I actually wonder why i'm getting a response most of the time i get one and when it just says "thanks for reporting this" I wonder why a response was sent at all.

This suggestion is outside the purview of the TalkBoard, as the TalkBoard does not make policy for moderators.

I am going to close this thread as it is outside the purvue of this forum.

If the OP would like this to be brought to Randy's attention, just PM me or Report the thread and I will move it to Randy's Forum for his review and comment.

But, as a moderator, I wanted to respond. I am not one to respond directly to RBPs. First, we do not talk about any actions we take... so I don't want to start down that road. Second, we get RBPs directly to our email accounts... not to our PM accounts... so we would cannot just hit "Reply"... we would have to take extra steps to respond. Third, some of us get many RBPs in a day... and oftentime the same post gets reported by 5 - 10 people. I would rather spend the limited time I have dealing with the "problem" post vs thanking those that report them. FInally, it is safe to assume that if you report a post it gets to us. No action usually mean we either have not had a chance to get to it, are conferring with fellow mods or have decided no action is necessary.

I think I can speak for my fellow mods in saying we truly do appreciate our members. If you find a problem post, continue to report it. Do not assume we do not appreciate you just because you do not get a personal note from us. :D
