Question 16: Considering a Current Motion
submitted by aztimm
I have a strong passion for the, "Fitness on the Go," forum under consideration and would like to see how the candidates would vote on it. There are existing threads on this: * Proposal thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=861522 * Motion thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=869238 Candidates: How would you vote on this motion? |

On the vote. I would say "YES" to the forum creation. Humbug:D |
I made the motion on this forum (seconded by Spiff) and then voted yes on this forum:

I do agree, though, that I hope this debate doesn't turn into a series of questions about proposed forums. |
Considering FlyerTalk has an Amtrak forum, I would see the Fitness Forum having no problem....uh.....fitting in.
|
I would have voted for it also, although any diversion in to discussion of individual properties gyms would be better in the hotel forums.
|
On 6 Oct 2008, the TalkBoard failed to pass, 5-3-0-1:
Moved by bhatnasx and seconded by Spiff: (to) "create a Travel Health & Fitness forum. The proposed forum will include such topics as healthy eating & excercise while traveling as well as travel health discussion (immunizations & medical related discussions)." Voting yes: bhatnasx, gleff, kokonutz, Spiff, techgirl Voting no: Cholula, Jenbel, lucky9876coins Did not vote: Punki Please note that TalkBoard motions require a 2/3 majority to pass. |
Given all the information both before and after the vote, I would vote yes.
|
based on the information I've seen.
I would vote for a more general "fitness and health" forum then just "fitness on the go" forum. I like the idea of all the fitness, health, diet etc. questions in one forum. And most of the boards I post on have a similar forum so I agree it's a common interest.
|
I am a firm believer in the "do it and review it" methodology in these matters, provided of course that the resource is available to permit this.
Set up the forum and agree to review it in say 10 weeks. If it is meeting or exceeding expectations, keep it. If it isn't, then either change it to match the expectations (and set another review period) or consolidate it elsewhere. |
I would vote YES for a general "Health & Fitness on Travel" Forum.
My concerns are that it turns into "which hotel has the best gym" etc...so I would urge that the topics of that particular forum are well defined in advance. Cheers, S |
I share your passion and any way or amount of discussion and rewriting to get the proposal into a form that would elicit enough yes votes to get a Fitness forum established would get great support from me.
Vote yes for Fitness. Our lives may depend on it. |
aztimm, I *really* like your idea and the accompanying examples. I would vote in favor of this.
|
I think it's a distinctive enough topic that it is not an automatic fit for an existing forum and, though not a topic in which I have a lot of interest, it's certainly important to many, many FTers -- what hotel doesn't have a fitness center these days?
I'd vote, "Yes!" |
