SWISS Magazine 12.2007/1.2008 Latest News From SWISS

Citing from Page 4:

"SWISS FIRST AND BUSINESS REFINEMENTS COMING SOON

For your added pleasure and enjoyment, SWISS will introduce a series of improvements to both its First Class and Business Class products over the next several months. The scope of these innovations is set to hit full stride next spring but the process has gone under way in November.

More luxury in SWISS First Class
SWISS is building on its longstanding commitment to make your travel experience in First Class the perfect combination of comfort, luxury, tranquility and privacy - allowing you to feel as though you were travelling aboard your own jet. Enhancements to this concept which combines fine food and drink with service that leaves nothing to be desired, will be phased in over the next few months. The refinements to SWISS First Class have taken effect on 28 November. You will be able to savour a line of exclusive "artisan cheeses" .... A broader magazine selection and technically advanced noise-reduced headphones are yet two more inflight comfort enhancements that have taken effect at the end of November.
Looking ahead to March 2008, you can expect even more luxury-oriented improvements whenever you travel in SWISS First Class, such as heightened sleep comfort, favourable to getting a good night's rest."

Citing from Page 5:

"More individualised service in SWISS Business Class

Travelling in SWISS Business Class will feature more personalised service, with improvements having started in December and getting into full swing as of March 2008.
Overall, the accent will be on giving you greater flexibility and greater selection with regard to breakfast and more time for in-flight sleep, adjustments that reflect requests voiced at various customer workshops. Consequently, the new service is intended to make the cabin a quieter place. The general focus will be on personalised service. For example, you will be able to indicate what you would like to have for breakfast, the idea being similar to the "door knob" option available in top hotels. (...) Other refinements are to come into effect in March, with the end result producing a service much closer in style to that of a high-class restaurant. (...)"

Sounds like they finally realized they woke the cabin up way to early on night flights in C. Seems like a bunch of excellent changes!

Great news! I'm looking forward to the individual breakfast service in C!

Unfortunately, Swiss does not install new seats in A332...that would be a real improvement.

Just found the following on the SWISS M&M web page:

SWISS satisfies every wish

More luxury in SWISS First Class
SWISS is building on its longstanding commitment to make your travel experience in First Class the perfect combination of comfort, luxury, tranquillity and privacy - allowing you to feel as though you are travelling aboard your own jet. Enhancements to this concept, which combines fine food and drink with service that leaves nothing to be desired, will be phased in over the next few months. The refinements to SWISS First Class, which took effect November 28, allow you to savour a line of exclusive "artisan cheeses" produced by Switzerland's master cheese-maker Rolf Beeler, who specialises in the production of small-batch, handmade cheese. At the same time, you will once again be able to enjoy the highly popular Balik salmon, a Swiss Alpine product that sees the art of preparing smoked salmon continued in adherence with the traditions of Czarist Russia. Both of these elements complement our SWISS Taste of Switzerland concept.

If you are a wine connoisseur you are sure to welcome the introduction of an even higher-quality Bordeaux to the wine card. A stylish new menu card has been prepared to coincide with the introduction of these quality items. A broader magazine selection and technically advanced noise-reducing headphones are yet two more inflight comfort enhancements to take effect at the end of November. Looking ahead to March 2008, you can expect even more luxury-oriented improvements whenever you travel in SWISS First Class, such as heightened sleep comfort favourable to getting a good night's rest.

More individualised service in SWISS Business Class
Travelling in SWISS Business Class will feature more personalised service, with improvements starting in December and getting into full swing as of March 2008. Overall, the accent will be on giving you greater flexibility and greater selection with regard to breakfast and more time for inflight sleep, adjustments that reflect requests voiced by customers. The general focus will be on personalised service. For example, you will be able to indicate what you would like to have for breakfast, the idea being similar to the "door knob" option available in top hotels.

Further comfort enhancements as of November include an additional hot-towel service. Other refinements are to come into effect in March, with the end result producing service much closer in style to that of a high-class restaurant. All in all, these measures are further evidence of SWISS's commitment to creating an "at home" atmosphere for you throughout your journey.
Not sure what to think about this enhancements. If they feel the need to put the "additional hot towel service" as a differentiating service factor, the standards at LX must have reached a new lowest point.

I am sure the guys in SWISS management are always missing the point: They need to imporve the seating first thing, especially on the A330 fleet, and then let them think of other small details.

I guess non of these guys took a flight from MIA to ZRH in C Class on A330 and saw how terrible is the C class product on that long flight.

There seems to be a PJ-fetish going on here (see all the other posts on PJs).

SWISS will not install new seats in the A332. From 2009 onwards the A332's are going to be replaced with A333's. Unfortunately the last A332 will first leave the fleet by 2011 so on some routes this bad seat will be featured for quite a while.

I flew LAX-ZRH on New Year's Eve (deaprture Dec, 31st, arrival Jan 1st ) and did quite like the new breakfast choices - something I haven't seen before. Although for the crew this was the first time they served breakfast like this, they were able to meet all the passengers request without any problems(having not enough "door knob slips" for all passengers put aside...).

As published in the Swiss press release:

For example, you will be able to indicate what you would like to have for breakfast, the idea being similar to the "door knob" option available in top hotels.
After boarding you receive form with a list of breakfast items, where you can pick and choose, like:

coffee / sugar / cream
orange juice / apple juice / grapefruit juice
bread roll / croissant / danish
fruit platter / cold cuts / yoghurt
(and so on, don't remember all the selections...)

Just like the hangers you can fill out in hotel rooms and hang to your door know before you go to sleep.

Does this contribute that the breakfast is served later and gives passengers more time to fly. Especially on the short East Coast - ZRH flights eg from JFK it is annoying that breakfast is served as early as 1h30 mins before arrival. It really shouldn't be served earlier than 1h to 45 mins before landing.

I don't quite remember when exactly it was served, since it was no concern for me on this particular flight ("breakfast" before arriving at 4 PM local time ) - if I would have to guess I would say it was probably served about 1hr before arrival.

more time to sleep: YES.
The flight time is (normally) not dependent of the scheduled breakfast time in C.
