Past 747 Routes to the US?

On what routes from ZRH or GVA has LX operated 747 aircraft in the 1980s to the East Coast of the US? Anyone remember?

LX never has... but SR (Swissair) used to operate them ex ZRH to these destinations at the least:
JFK, BOS, ORD, ATL, MIA (seasonal).

I have a North America summer timetable from 1984. (Souvenir from my first transatlantic flight. )

Back then, Swissair operated the following routes to the US (all daily, all on 747s)

ZRH-JFK-ZRH (SR 100/101)
ZRH-GVA-JFK-GVA-ZRH (SR 110/111)
ZRH-BOS-ORD-BOS-ZRH (SR 128/129)

EDIT: Funny thing... I just noticed that I posted this exactly 22 years after that JFK-ZRH flight (May 19, 1984).

How long did the 747 last on the GVA-JFK-GVA route before switching to MD-11? or was it always off and on?

Airfleets has interesting details on the SR 747s:

Memory lane...

I definitely recall taking these 747 routes:
a) SR 100/101 ZRH-JFK
b) SR 110/111 ZRH-GVA-JFK
c) ZRH-BOS
d) ZRH-ATL
e) NRT-HKG-BOM-ZRH (a horrible routing, plus I had an intestinal flu!)

I think only the JFK routes were the full passenger configuration, the other routes were flown with combis. The big trick in those days was to get row 67: upper deck coach exit row. Actually I remember when the 747-300 first came on line in the 80s - now I really feel old

ZRH-ORD was on a DC-10 as best I can remember (took it in the late 80s I think). The DC-10s were actually great planes in coach as well - they even had huge motorized racks with room for everyone's coats that disappeared behind the movie screens! My favourite DC-10 landing ever: on packed snow in ANC en route from ZRH to NRT.

Some of the DC10s in service with former SR are actually still flying with NW and are being phased out this year due to high fuel consumption.

So if you are interested catch one AMS-BOM or MSP-HNL!

Some info:
a DC10-3 from 1980:

from 1974 still operating:

ZRH-BOS-PHL-BOS-ZRH was also operated by 743/743Combi but not on a daily basis, as was ZRH-PEK-SHA-PEK-ZRH as well as ZRH-BOM-ZRH. Formerly the routing to the Far East was ZRH-BOM-HKG-SEL but never to NRT, iirc.

Trust me, I have never been to Seoul and I definitely took that never ending flight... Since I was living in GVA at the time, ZRH wasn't even the end of the trip!

Thanks for the info, I think I prefer the pleasant SR memories to an NW "experience" however.

Oh those were the nice days of SR
I flew on -IGE or -IGF (any way I could find out which one it was?) BOS-ZRH in August 99 in what would have been one of their last flights to US before the M11 took over. Flew in F and despite no flat bed etc etc I still felt like a prince!
