Penalty for no-show on return flight?
Hi everyone,
the last thread I could find relating to my question is 15 years old, so I wanted to ask if anyone has recent experience with no-showing for their return flight on Swiss? Before booking, this message is displayed and I'm assuming it is also somewhere in their tariff conditions: "The fare is only valid if all the flights are fully flown in the booked sequence. Otherwise the fare will be recalculated based on the actual flight routing."
Has it happened to someone recently that they were retroactively charged for not using their return flight? Given that tickets generally get more expensive closer to the date of the flight, I'm wondering what kind of fare they would even apply to the used flight? A one way ticket booked on the day of flight must be astronomical, but booked now is not that much more expensive than return (reason for not booking one-way is I already booked a return ticket that is changeable but not refundable. as I got laid off, I now need to only fly back home).
I am not a frequent flyer and have never before not used a part of my flight with Swiss or Lufthansa.

No one will chase you for skipping the return flight (once or twice), don't worry. That warning refers to the eventuality of using the coupons out of sequence. I believe there was a court case in Germany years ago where it was ruled that an airline can't completely cancel a ticket if a flight is skipped, however they are allowed to reprice it if flights are taken in a different order. That's what it's about.
Routinely using hidden city ticketing may lead to some issues but doing it occasionally is pretty much 100% safe.
