Swiss actually pays out eu261 first time

This came up in my news feed

https://onemileatatime.com/insights/swiss-flight-cancelation-compensation

Along those lines, I’m happy to report that my SWISS compensation experience was downright seamless. For one, the airline has a dedicated webpage where you can easily file any compensation claims. You just have to enter the basics of what happened, and can attach any documents related to expenses

So it can happen. Of course, not for my dozen or so claims over the years. Maybe I should change my name to Ben Schlappig, I might have more luck.

Must be the name. LX is usually not really generous when it comes to EU261 claims.

A close friend of mine +1, received last week duty of care compensation from Swiss for cancelled flight. Hotel(more than 200 euros), taxi transfer from one city to another(was few hundred euros) to catch the new flight and lunch. Took some time but the result was as should be.

Well, duty of care is not compensation. LX paid for a hotel for me, too, when I got stranded in ZRH over night, but no compensation when I reached my destination 14 hours late. A plane went tech and LX interprets this as "extraordinary", in the EU mechanical issues are usually not extraordinary.

In Ben's blog it says that it was a technical failure which in my experience means lx will deny.

Also weather and ATC always get rejected.

Actually I am not sure what would ever be accepted for compensation.

I was also very surprised to see this. Technical failure got always denied first and only paid after escalating to FOCA (the Swiss civil aviation authority). Perhaps FOCA got mad about being the front office for LX …

I'm positive that the treatment he got was due to his name. The comments over there tell much the same story.

Exactly, no chance to get compensation when a plane goes tech, unless you run a well-known blog.

That, and maybe being HON, could help.

But in most other cases, LX has been very reluctant to pay any compensation.

Suits him well for being so complimentary to Swiss, even though I see that they also gave him a lump sum instead of actual cost for the hotel, same as me (of course in his case, his pain is eased by the fact he did get compensation, and also the difference was only about 6% of the cost, not nearly 1/3rd as in my case)

that said, once I did finally click the transfer button, I did receive the funds within a week. Being an EU bank probably helped.
