Catering Long Haul at 7:50 pm
The SFO-ZRH flight (LX 039) has been scheduled with an 8 pm departure for many months. The dinner service has been scaled back considerably: everything served on one tray at once; appetizer rather small and pathetic. The flight is now scheduled with a 7:50 pm departure, i.e. before 8 pm. Would this possibly mean a return to a more normal dinner service: aperitif served with nuts, appetizer course, then main course? This is the pattern for mid-day departures ex-ZRH and before the pandemic this was true for the SFO-ZRH flights which usually departed around 7:40 pm. I have had a suspicion that there was something "magic" about the 8 pm departure as that was the time that mandated a "streamlined" service.

totally agree. That one-service thing is a joke. So many of us probably want the real meal service even in the evening/at night. I remember SFO-ZRH early 2020 just before pandemic they still offered full service or "quicker-option", which was a way to content every passenger in J. I see the new pattern as a big downgrade on J-service.

I was surprised to learn about the „all-on-1-tray“ service for flights from CA (or from GRU). Wasn't the „all-on-1-tray“ service introduced as "express" option (besides normal service) for flights from the eastcoast. This made sense given the short flight time, in particular for late departures. But for flights from LAX/SFO, I really do not see the point. For everyone adapted to PST time, going to sleep at 9:00 PM likely is not the preferred option

So… it seems the cut-off time is not 8pm or 7pm (i could have sworn the time was mentioned at some point)…. But it is ALL night flights…so I presume LX17 leaving at 4:35p as well…. Any experience?
whatever the experience.. you will love it

Our service is individual and designed entirely to meet your requirements. You can experience that authentic restaurant feeling course by course as you enjoy our refined cuisine over a period of 2-3 hours.
But if you prefer to be served your meal all at once and select additional dishes from our menu later on, you will love our “casual dining”1option. This is available on all long-haul flights and gives you the option of being served your selection of starter & main course, followed by cheese & dessert, at the time of your choosing – immediately after take-off or later on during your flight.
On daytime flights we also offer you our “SWISS Bistro” option after the main service until shortly before landing. This includes hot and cold food and snacks that you can enjoy at any time as a light bite or main meal.
