West bound vs. East bound long haul

There seems to be a hangover from the dreary days of the virus panic. West bound long haul service from Zurich to the US has almost brought back 99% of the pre pandemic service. If one wants to pick nits, the chocolate selection lacks the pizzaz of Sprungli that was there before. Also, the wonderful mustard potato chips have not returned. But service is in courses and decently done. West bound from the West Coast of the US is another story. Everything on one tray with tragically bad small "first" course served alongside the main. No cocktail time at all. This seems essentially identical to the service on the very short flights ex NY or Boston. But the West Coast flights are a full 10+ hours in length. Why the downgrade in service and quality?

This concept where they serve you the first course together with the hot main course is not good at all. And has nothing to do with the flight length. I had this on flights to SIN/GRU... I always complain and ask to get the warm dish a bit later.

I believe it is all night flights leaving after 7pm where everything is served on one tray, irrespective of direction and length. Do not like it either.

edit. Speaking of C class.

What class are we talking about? On my most recent inbound in F, everything was served in courses and I spent two hours eating.

This was in business LX 039 SFO-ZRH. I understand that some may want a quick meal and in the past SWISS offered a quick meal option. That said, this is a 10.5 hr flight and the quality is really far from what is was prior to the pandemic. Not only is the quality, by definition, less than before by reason of serving everything at once, but the quality of the first course is way below what it had been, the absence of even an abbreviated cocktail time, also diminishes the experience. The other direction ZRH-SFO is almost back to what existed before the pandemic.

Doesnt sound good. Hope you let LX know. Purser recently told me (as usual) that only customer feedback may improve things.

People prefer to sleep as soon as possible and don't want to be disturbed by long dining... LX 39 departs at 8pm SFO time...

Let's be honest, the catering out of US Airports is nothing special anyhow. Hence, like this you don't waste your time and can get to sleep earlier; Ideally to skip the meal completely. Out of ZRH, when departing after 10pm getting the whole meal at once is also the best solution.

I fly LX 39 (SFO-ZRH) about once a quarter. I choose this flight in large part due to its late departure--I board, I eat, I go to bed. I'm OK with the substandard food. On the return trip from ZRH I take the time to enjoy.

Besides, what choice do I have? Not like I'd be willing to fly LH or UA to get from SFO to Europe!
