ORD - ZRH changes

I've frequently flown ORD - ZRH in July/August on a Swiss 777 departing ORD sometime around 7 pm. I just checked their summer schedule to see if I can snag some deals, and noticed that the 777 route doesn't show up anymore ... there's a Swiss Airbus that leaves earlier and arrives inconveniently early in ZRH, or what looks like a new UAL route on a (*barf*) Boeing 767. Am I just looking too early, or is Swiss discontinuing the evening 777 flight to not compete with the UAL one?

On Swiss.com, I see 2 flights (at least in June): LX007 with 2:35pm departure, and LX009 with 7:10pm depature.
Although both on Airbus 340.

UA/LH/LX/OS have an approved cartel across the atlantic and co-ordinate their capacities... one A330/343 plus one B763 sounds about right for the summer schedule.

Interesting -- I see the evening flight on swiss.com as well, but not yet on United (where I usually book through, because I connect from another city). May just be a matter of adjusting my search filters...

UA's 767 hard product in both J and Y is superior to that of LX's 777 or A330/A340, unless you're a couple in J looking to sit together (which is impossible on a UA 767-300). In J, UA offers direct aisle access from all seats on, whereas on LX many seats have a seatmate and lack direct aisle access. In Y, UA is 2-3-2 compared to 2-4-2 (A330/A340) or 3-4-3 (777) on LX.

I would have to disagree there. I think it very much depends on the specific seat chosen and situation. The Throne seats on Lx are superior to UA, as is the 2-4-2 Economy imho. The 777 Y on LX with 3-4-3 is worse though.

Thanks for the insight. I flew on an old 767 overseas a few years ago (DL, not UA) and wasn't a fan ... there's something about those worn-out planes that make sitting in them for 8+ hours unpleasant. If I flew solo, I'd probably favor UA/Polaris, but flying as a family, I'm likely going to be deciding between Premium Economy on UA and the 2-4-2 Y cabin on LX.

That 2.35pm departure is annoying and exhausting upon arrival in ZRH.

Try using the "Advanced Search" option on united.com. This allows using the legacy search UI.

The new search UI on united.com hides MANY connection options that are actually available but only through the old UI.

I’m on LX7 this June and it was originally on the a343, then just got switched to the a333. I hope it gets switched back or maybe a swap to the 773.

same here, had 4 great seats on the 77W in the „Stübli“, now the 333…
I doubt it will switch back, as they are offering 2 daily flights, previously only 1 flight but in the 77W
