Swiss moves from JFK T4 to T1
From LX just now:
Change from terminal 4 to terminal 1 at John F. Kennedy airport (JFK)
From 1 February 2022, all SWISS flights to New York JFK will arrive at and depart from the airport’s Terminal 1, which is already used by our sister airlines in the Lufthansa Group. The move has been prompted by a reassignment of the gates.
SWISS aims to ensure that all travellers continue to enjoy our usual top-notch services also in our new JFK home. All the details of our services, our lounge and the further amenities that we will be offering our customers in Terminal 1 are currently being devised.

The crazy thing of course is that the LX lounge was just totally redone…

As expected DL probably kicked out LX and hopefully will take AF/KL and perhaps KE from T1 to T4. That should solve the gate issue. If LH reopens all levels of the T1 lounge and spreads out the departures a bit they should be able to manage.

Agreed, though KL is already at T4 (AF is at T1). KE is at T1 and OZ moves from T4 to T1 today. Go figure.

It seems the CEO of DL made some comments in 2018 that give some insight. He wanted all riff raff that is not a skyteam partner or otherwise aligned to DL out of T4. In that call he mentioned that AF is contractually bound to T1 (it was one of the JV partners that built/operate T1)
JFK T1 is in the process of being completely rebuilt and will eventually occupy the space of T1 and the former T2 & T3: https://www.anewjfk.com/projects/the-new-terminal-one/
Just like AMS Shipol operates T4, the MUC FMG will operate T1.
We built terminal 4 with a view that that would be a SkyTeam hub at JFK, that we’d be able to attract all of the SkyTeam partners in. However some of them have long standing commitments such as Air France to the terminal 1 facility, Korean is in terminal 1, and we’ve got to create space for them to move in. I talk to the Port a lot, I talk to Schipol who’s one of our partners in terminal 4, about how do we get some of the other carriers that are not in the SkyTeam out of terminal 4 to move more partners in.
..We’re eventually going to have to consolidate and move out of terminal 2 so we’re looking at building more space on the property in terminal 4 and expanding.. long long term I hope we get all our SkyTeam partners together.. I think it would give us a big competitive advantage.

Hard to spread too much considering the limited window of desirable departure times to Europe and the number of flights: pre COVID— 2 to FRA, 1 to MUC, 1 to BRU, 2 to ZRH, 1 to GVA, 1 to VIE. That’s a LOT of people entitled to lounge access. Also, a lot of F and HONs—the 3rd floor is not built to accommodate the extra LX flow. We’ll see.

Aww man, that is very disappointing. I really wanted to check out the renovated LX lounges in 2022.
Are they gonna use the LH lounges and ground service now? What a huge downgrade...

What a disappointment!
Especially given the info about swissport the employees and service at T4 was absolutely top notch. Doesn’t even compare to the service flying LH out of T1.
Definitely seemed like Swiss invested a lot updating the lounge in T4, although the lounge wasn’t my favorite (I’ll miss the centurion lounge!), I always felt so welcome once inside. Won’t forget how everyone was in costume on a Halloween flight this year. Seemed like a great community.
LH lounge at T1 always felt overcrowded. Can only imagine how it will be moving forward
