Nostalgic 1978 Trip Swissair

Looking at the Airline Timetables website and now getting very nostalgic....

Can we remember the food and Service in Swissair from Yrs ago......

Swissair & SQ used to be the best to the Orient. SAS weren't bad too

1. LHR - GVA Swissair mid morning DC9 Service - Economy

Drinks from the Bar accompanied by a Cold Collation.

But that meal was to die for.........

Cold Chicken with Curry Mayonnaise accompanied by Fresh Bread Roll. A wonderful Fresh Salad with Olive Oil. Swiss Cheeses preplated and Crackers with butter, Cheesecake which was divine. Plenty of Red Wine & Beer on offer. As a 19 yr old I enjoyed the offering.....

Scoffed some Chocolates afterwards too and good Coffee with digestif!

Landed across the Lake with spectaular views of the mountains by the side as we came into Land

2. GVA - KHI Swissair DC10 Dinner Service - Economy

a long 5 hr wait in GVA but exotic in seeing all the planes coming into their little satellite terminals. Remember Air Afrique DC8 / Gabon Air 747 / Royal Air Maroc / Olympic 727 / SAS DC9. I can smell and hear the noise from the open air balcony.

Overnight to Karachi - flight continued to Hong Kong and Tokyo. Food again outstanding. Lamb with piped Potatoe. DC10's in those days were 8 or 9 abreast so plenty of room. even Movie with those piped Headsets that gave u earache!

3. KHI - MUL Pakistan International F27 Fokker Friendship.

Lunch on plane and Western offering provided. Pakistani Food is very Spicy.

Then back with Family, Father worked there.

Sorry but wanted to share Memory Lane in these current dark COVID days.

Steve

I still remember that orange and striking green upholstery on that Swissair 747 to JFK on my first transatlantic flight at that time. Flying was still somewhat exclusive then.

I don't look back on this time favourably. Think of the climate crimes at this time. The pollution. The gas guzzlers in cities. Coal and gas. Awful. Those aircraft are one of the reasons why we are in a climate crisis now.

When I think of Swissair, I think of my uncle, who lived in Taipei but used to work a lot in Lagos so he was flying Swissair Taipei to Lagos via Zurich.... Sad that I never got to fly on an actual Swissair flight..... only SQ or CX back in the 80s

I remember flying BOM-ZRH in January 2000 on an MD11 and reading the NZZ while taxiing in BOM. The tube light above me kept flashing in a strange way as if there was a short circuit... the lead article in the NZZ was all about the final report on the tragic events that led to the LX111 crash in 1998 ... kept looking at the light and wondered if the swiss had already implemented all the recommendations Looking at the MD11 wing while landing was always fascinating...

Lufthansa Cargo still operate the MD-11. One of them crashed and was totally destroyed at RUH in 2010, LH 8460.

You forgot to add the cool tickets we had back then (issued in KHI I think):

That stamp is the airport tax that used to be collected in advance by the travel agent in India. Nowadays its collected as part of ticketing.
