Swiss cancellation e-mails
Got two cancellation e-mails today. For two separate bookings. They did not come as a surprise.
What however was annoying: they asked me to confirm the new itinerary - however the e-mail only contained only the original booking info including the cancelled flights and no "new" replacement flight.
They said if I do not confirm the new flights the entire itinerary will be cancelled.
So what I am supposed to do...?
(The next was not misleading - I got one in German and one English... they were pretty consistent....)

I’ve got this weird e-mail as well. The two outbound segments are cancelled while the three inbounds are still confirmed at this time. The way I understand, my options are:
- Click the button confirming the reaming inbound flights Weird in my case and unclear about refund for the outbound.
- Click the button confirming that I want to travel on a later date. This is not clear either since it might end up in a voluntary option subject to re-pricing.
- Call them and request replacements for the cancelled segments
- Do nothing. Meaning I can rebook until 31.01.21 for dates until 31.12.2021 and all remains involuntary = without re-pricing.

Yup - got a bunch of those mails as well today.
Good: They finally start cleaning up the mess with future bookings and cancel what they don't fly.
I really appreciate this. Hated to be kept in limbo for so long.
Bad: They must have hired the social media team to set this up and write the text. - So it's as confusing as possible.
The options given in the mail don't tie to what they did to the reservation.
My conclusion: Same as YAK40.
I can wait until January 31, 2021 to rebook for dates up to end 2021. Since flights are cancelled, it is involuntary.
That means that there will not be any re-pricing if I keep the same routing (plus I guess minimum stay & layovers),
and I only need availability in the same cabin, not the same fare class.
Tip: Print and save those mails! - They are probably the last thing you'll see of your reservation.
At least I can no longer see them when I log on at swiss.com.
My choice: I'll contact the helpdesk, but I'm in no hurry at all.

Hi,
I have a flight booked with LX (LX180) to BKK on 29/8. Checking the schedule it is not operating however booking is still intact. Does anyone with Expertflyer see the flight full to indicate it may be a "ghost".

I received two different types of mails:
1. For a ZRH-MIL-ZRH, where both legs were cancelled:
In light of the current situation, SWISS is offering flexible rebooking options for all ticket fares. You may simply keep your ticket and rebook without paying any fee until 31 August 2020 as soon as you have decided on a new travel date – even after the original date of flight.
Note: They do NOT mention here that I can wait until 31Jan 2021. In my view, I should have that option, based on the LX website.
2. For a MIL-ZRH-SIN-BKK-ZRH-MIL where all except SIN-BKK got cancelled:
You can inform us about your decision by using the selection fields below so that we can update your ticket for you without any further effort from your side. Please transmit your reply by (first departure date -3days) , otherwise your flights will be cancelled.
Of course, your booking code and your ticket remain valid for later use. You can contact us by January 31, 2021 at the latest and have your new flights booked.
Note: The explanations given here are in line with how I understand the rules. But I'll certainly NOT (as in: "never, ever") use any of the buttons or links in the mail to confirm anything, because it's not clear what happens if I do. (I want my booking to remain cancelled / involuntary / > no repricing if I rebook, > open for refund, if I want to)

I see availability for your flight on Swiss.com and on Expertflyer. I also see it if I call up the schedule on LX and on EF. That unfortunately does not mean too much. I don't think they already cleaned up August for the Far East.

There is one flight which arrives ZRH at 17:15. With the BKK flight departing 17:55 that gives a 40 minute MCT. Is that sufficient as it does not look bookable. There are 2 other flights showing as bookable on Swiss but show they are not operating on the schedule on Swiss.com
What a mess !!
Edit - Doing a dummy booking it seems as though you cannot select seats on the BKK flights so maybe not operating.

Indeed. The good thing is that they finally started to clean things up much more rapidly and far further out than they did before. I got cancellations from July all the way to October today.
If they now progress like this for a few more days, then you may soon see your schedule for BKK in August.
When I looked at the availability on expert flyer, I still saw a daily LX180 at the end of August, which I doubt will happen, even if restrictions would be eased for tourists by then.
I don't see how they can harm you if you just wait for the August schedule to be published, and then call them.
A credible August schedule for me is a non-daily operation. Maybe they also keep the change of the timing to late evening departure (22:40), like they do at least until the end of July.
Agreeing to any of their proposals in the mail looks more risky to me. LX might try to interpret this as your voluntary agreement to what they sent. (for example to forfeit/omit/cancel without refund the FCO-ZRH leg of your booking)

I received one of these emails about one of the flights in my itinerary being cancelled.
I've called a contact centre to check that I can leave the booking and rebook the same route in the same booking class as the original ticket (ie economy or business) for some time in 2021 without additional payment.
I was told I would need to pay any increase in price (and of course any reduction in price wouldn't be refunded!)
I'll try another call centre later today.

I received similar emails last night - my booking is AMS-ZRH-JNB-ZRH-AMS in September.
The first email was that AMS-ZRH had been cancelled and I'd been moved to the later flight that day. No biggie but I'd have a hour and a bit only to connect.
This morning I received another email that my JNB-ZRH leg had been cancelled and I'm moved to the following day (along with ZRH-AMS). Again no biggie. But here's to hoping that these are the last changes!
I have until 17th July to accept these changes.
(I have permanent residency in ZA so can enter even if tourists are not being admitted).
