Please FOCA: Shut down Swiss immediately for shady business practices !

Hello,

I would encourage FOCA (Federal Office of Aviation or Bundesamt für Zivilluftfahrt BAZL) to immediately shut down all operations of Swiss - and prohibit them from reopening.

How can it be that a business is blatantly violating its own CoC and is ignoring a law (EC261/2004, which was adopted by Switzerland)?
Refusing customers immediate full cash refunds for flights that Swiss elected to cancel, is a very, very shady business practice. This should be punished in the most severe form - prohibiting Swiss from selling any new tickets and prohibiting to operate in Swiss and EU airspace!

From https://onemileatatime.com/swiss-flight-refund/ :

I work at a travel agency and the Lufthansa group has pulled our ability to refund in the GDS. So the excuse “we’re focusing on immediate customers right now” is completely wrong. Even a travel agent who isn’t busy and could process it still cannot. They are clearly holding cash, people need to get their credit card companies involved!

Please stop the hyperbole and get a reality check.

Whenever this crisis eases, the entire economy will need to be massively jump-started with government aid. Re-establishing vital air transport links is a key part of this effort. In this situation, the chances of the Swiss government closing its home airline, rather than resucitating it with tax money, are precisely zero.

One way or another, sooner or later, the lost revenue from tickets sold for flights not operated will be born by the taxpayer.

The cause of passengers demanding refunds is valid. But your uproar here is silly.

Has every passenger recovered the cash price for their Swissair tickets, which became worthless in 2001?

No. But Swissair didn't halt operations because of a government-imposed travel ban which brought to knees the entire sector within days.
