Swiss in Miami [MIA]: experience

3 years ago I was in the Avianca lounge (on a business ticket) and I thought it was a terrible experience. very crowded, uncomfortable, no showers. I complained to swiss and they told me that they would invite F and HON to the much nicer Latam lounge if the avianca lounge was too busy. can anybody tell me what the first class lounge situation in miami is at the moment ?

LATAM though it’s not really nice - especially not for F pax, even if it might be better than the AV lounge...

Agree with MichielR: The LATAM lounge (now called VIP lounge ) is a very basic lounge with some soft drinks, 2 different wines, 1 sparkling wine, some cheap spirits. No hot food (afaik), maybe a soup, some nuts, cookies, crackers, apples, bananas, cheese. In September 2018, I used the shower (need to ask at the front desk), which was clean, but also very basic. I think there is only a single shower room. There are a few nicer seats towards the back of the lounge, where you can watch some planes on the tarmac.

Last time I flew F from MIA on LX I visited both lounges to get the best of both worlds, which is still not much, but they have different weaknesses. Overall, the lounge situation for LX at MIA is disappointing.

There is a bit more food than that, sometimes risotto or pasta and empanadas, also salad, but none is good. Tossitos (or other chips) and Haagen Dasz ice cream are available upon request at the bar. There is also a dessert/fruit buffet towards the entrance.

It is a very average lounge, though with more space than the avianca lounge. I wished that the LH group would open a lounge in MIA. LH, LX, OS and LO are all flying there.

And EW. It’s getting ridiculous now with up to 7 services a day, 4 with First Class.

Yes, it was awful last time I was there.

Have you actually complained & pointed out the deficiencies ?

Myself & others did regarding HKG, I involved my HON PA, who worked with the Station Manager & it resulted in rapid change at HKG. Sometimes they just don’t realise the negative effect on Pax & LH group do have to pay for lounges at outstations, they prefer us to be happy with their provision.

They have some amazing ground staff at MIA who have worked for Lufthansa for >30 years! They invest in having full time LH-Group employees in the lounges to look after F/HON Pax. I think the reality is there probably isn’t space in the terminal for a lounge the size of what they need. That, and it’s seen as a leisure destination, so they probably don’t care too much.

I think they know that people are unhappy but are unwilling or unable (or a combination of both) to do something about it.

Last time I was there, four Swiss German speaking fellow F flyers were very vocal about how unhappy they were with the lounge. Kept shouting at the escort guy how inappropriate they find the lounge; to point that I stepped in an told them to please stop it and write in instead, as they will most likely survive and the escort guy is certainly the wrong person to complain to.

The economics are certainly not good for LH, as it has to pay for its passengers attending third party lounges. I am not a regular F flyer, but I see that C is often full on LH/LX (even on the a388), so that makes a lot of lounge traffic.

I wonder how the fact that your fellow F flyers were Swiss German speaking is relevant. Be assured that would you have addressed me by telling me off, I would have been much more vocal towards you

Given the F & HON traffic to MIA, LH group ought to make some effort, pax told them HKG was unacceptable & they made changes, fact not fiction

LH group not caring for their F pax & HON on the ground at any outstation is unacceptable & of course LH is ( allegedly) a 5* airline

It shows that those pax were from LX's home country, which is no less relevant than any other information on this forum.

LH's staff probably reads this thread and should then get to work. While F and HON pax are those who need the most improvement, C and SENs also deserve a better ground experience in MIA.
