Inconsistencies at Outstations

Just wanted to start this thread because I've started to notice a number of inconsistencies at outstations and it's getting a little irritating.

1) On CDG-ZRH-Longhaul in F, I was once told that I couldn't get HON tags on my luggage because I wasn't HON or wasn't flying LH F. I asked if this has always been the policy and the check-in agent said yes. That doesn't make sense because all the times I took this journey previously in LX F I got the tags. I don't care if I get tags or not, but they should be consistent. And I'm pretty sure the agent made the rule up or didn't know what she was talking about.

2) On check in at SFO, wasn't given an F ticket jacket. Was told it was only for LH F. Again it was contrary to literally every prior experience I had had, although the rule would make sense since the ticket jacket says Lufthansa on it and not Swiss.

These are really top notch 1st world problems. Wondering that nobody opened this threat already years ago.
If the the First class Boarding pass jacket is so important to you, you should re-use those, you got on previous F-flights in order to ensure he is well recognised as F-class passenger.:o

I'm sorry is this English?

I frankly don't care about either, as long as it's consistent. IME the bag tags rarely make a difference at SFO. I've had HON bags routinely come last. That's another story, but one I assume is out of LX's hands.

The jacket is useful if you have multiple boarding passes.

And yes, flying F is the ultimate in first world problems.

I believe you have problems with English also.
"I'm sorry is this English?" is written correctly in this way "I'm sorry, is this English?"

But if you prefer, we can communicate in French, German, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese also. Let's see, who is better in these languages.

Coming back to your point on the F-class jackets. Just reuse them, even for non-F flights. Then everybody can "see" your importance from far even more often.

You criticize me for wanting to show that I'm flying F (when that's actually not my desire at all), yet you indicate that you're HON on an anonymous internet posting forum for all the world to see. Hmmm

I was told at BRU that LX no longer has own staff at any European airport apart from Switzerland and I would presume that this contributes to the inconsistency - third party agents who handle multiple airlines and with who-knows-what training.

Starting in BRU on LX in F you will never get a HON tag, your boarding pass (of course without a sleeve) will be printed on Brussels Airlines paper and it has happened to me that FCL staff in ZRH either frown when they see it (one muttered ”Brussels Airlines...” as if it were an insult; another immediately printed me new boarding passes ”so that they look nicer”). I have also started LX F trips out of ARN and AMS, never getting HON tags on bag at either station.

When traveling in LX Y from BRU with my daughter and two checked bags, the agent did not even want to put Priority tags on both bags ”because your daughter is not SEN”. What? I told her both bags were mine and then she reluctantly put the tag on (the bag receipt still showed my daughter’s name though, I don’t remember if the actual bag tag had any mention of prio).

Last year flying LX F on SFO-ZRH, I did an early bag drop when check-in opened. So early that they forgot to load it on the plane afterwards... It arrived a day late with HON and RUSH tags on. Bag claim staff at BRU had no checkpoints but said they could not do anything until the bag would get scanned somewhere as found. They wouldn’t proactively call SFO to check if the bag was still there, but somehow I managed to google a local SFO number myself and got connected to a very friendly & apologetic lady who said that they still had the bag there and simply missed loading it. LH as a lot of IT problems, but they do get the baggage trace part in their app right and I wish for LX to adopt the same...

And you are an "Investor", as shown in your profile. Not much better neither.

I'm not sure I understand the retort here. I'm showing off because I'm an investor? I didn't realize that was something to be proud of.

But maybe I'm just not smart enough to understand.

Still doesn't explain your bitterness. Hopefully in your next life your net worth is commensurate with your brilliance.

athome Apr 27, 2019 6:06 am

There is no bitterness, believe me. It's fun. I am coming back to you to hard, as I was just surprised that you had to come back on my "English" in the first answer and not on the subject.
Showing in a forum, which is about flying and travelling, somebodies "travel status" may help others to understand with which background the respective member has, when he posts in the forum. "Investor" does not add any value in this case, "HON", "HHilton Diamond" or whatsoever does.

This post doesn't read well, but that's probably because your English is just that good.

But you're right. There's utility to letting anonymous internet traveler people that you're HON. There's no utility to a ticket jacket or priority baggage tags other than to show off.

Does a bright colored Priority (or HON for that matter) checked bag tag serve any purpose in actual bag handling? I consider handluggage status tags to be about showing off, but my checked bag tags and sticky etiquettes get tossed in the nearest bin as soon as I have collected the luggage, thinking their use is for the moments when the bag is not with me at all.

On a recent outstation flight, ARN-ZRH-YUL, my checked bag did not get a bright Priority tag and when I asked the check in agent ”Would it be possible to add a Priority tag, please?” the answer was ”You don’t need it, the Priority is included inside the bar code” - and the bag swooshed away. Upon arrival, my bag was among the last to be delivered... The sticky barcode tag said Priority indeed, but clearly that made no difference in final delivery.

Scanners and sorter belts are found in most places, but nevertheless bag-on-belt priority tends to be very inconsistent. So does the average bag handling give bag-on-belt priority based on barcode scanning, or by seeing a physical orange tag? Or perhaps priority bag handling as a whole is just a glossy invention by Marketing, not something actually applied by Operations...

sophialite Apr 27, 2019 7:03 am

Yeah I'm talking about checked bags.

And yeah some outstations are good at recognizing priority, others stink. But that's more incumbent on bag handlers.

IIRC they don't escort F pax through security at SFO either. No big deal if you have TSA pre, but otherwise a big deal because the lines can be long.
