Swiss to introduce Premium Economy

(Orignial in German - from Google translate)
In the spring of 2021, Swiss will introduce a Premium Economy Class on its long-haul fleet. As a first step, the additional travel class will be available on the aircraft of the Boeing 777-300ER fleet with 24 seats. In the medium term, it is planned to extend the product to the entire long-haul fleet. For passengers looking for more comfort, the new offer offers a special travel experience. Overall, Swiss is investing around CHF 40 million in the retrofitting of its Boeing 777 long-haul fleet. With the introduction of the new travel class, Swiss is reacting to the increasing demand for a product range that is located between the economy and the business class. Swiss CEO Thomas Klühr comments: "The success of LH and AUA convinced me and brought about my change of heart. The time is right now. We wanted to be sure that the new offer attracted economy customers and did not encourage business customers to leave business class. »(TI)
Key features:
- 8 seats in a row (2-4-2) for Boing 777
- 20% more seat pitch
- 10% more seat width
- 25% more recline
- Introduciton summer time table 2021

When they say entire long haul fleet, they also mean the A330/340? But I guess not since the A340 are just getting refitted now...

I am pretty sure we won‘t see PE on the A340s, but the new A350 or B787 already ordered to replace them.

Since the 330 is still 2-4-2 I think there is less pressure to add PE. The 777 should have gotten PE from the start. Economy on the 777 is tight!

To be avoided like the proverbial plaque tight!

Once in my life I had to sit in a ten-abreast 777 (not LX though) and it was torture.

Economy in a B-787 is just as tight on 98% of the airlines.

And one doesn’t usually have to pay to be tortured

And I wonder what they'll do when they switch the 777 to a 321. Just downgrade everyone?

If you are referring to the ZRH-TLV route, because no other route operated by the B777 could be swapped to an A321, on this route I suspect Premium Economy will not be sold, ust as F is not being sold either.

I may be an isolated case and statiscally not relevant, but, for daytime fligths, I do not value C more than PE and, hence, often fly PE, while I try to avoid Y on long haul flights. Hence, the claim quoted above does not apply to me.
