New longhaul destinations?

Does anyone know where LX might be potentially flying to?
My travel assistant mentioned today that someone at LX told her the next longhaul destination for LX will be ICN.
I was surprised to hear that since LH already has 2 daily flights there and also Korean Air is flying to ZRH.

The floor for speculations is open...

I asked my travel agent also and he mentioned ICT. That would be a new destination for the LH group. 🤔😉🤔

I very much doubt it to be ICT.

My guess would be on ICN, SEA or MEX or maybe something in the middle east?

Continuing with the "I" category, I'll toss out IAD.

A South Korean newspaper did report a couple months back on Swiss CEO mentioning IAD and ICN as potential destinations. IAD being more ę logical Ľ on a planning point of view and ICN being a better diversification of the destination portfolio.

The article (in Korean)

In the same vein, I recently wondered why there is no flight to the partner hub in IAH....

Are loads to ICN worth it for LX? LH flew their 744 with no F to ICN. And they fly the A350 to ICN. That plane also has no F. Seems like the route canít sustain F traffic and that market has been captured by Korean anyways, so what aircraft would LX use?

Wondering the same. Especially that LX has a very high premium class (vs. economy) ratio on all their long haul aircrafts.

On the other hand the Korean Air flight to Zurich has one of their best loads in Europe (frequency is only 3 times a week though) and ticket prices are constantly very expensive in all classes, most expensive KE fares in Europe...

Yes but thatís just more evidence potentially that what market share there is for F traffic to Seoul is taken up by Korean already, maybe?

FWIW, LH had F on the MUC flight when it was operated by the A346.

2 points to consider:
  • New long-haul destinations require additional widebody aircraft. I don't think there are any planned at the moment.
  • The transfer pax share at ZRH is ~30%. So a route's feasibility depends on network demand, not just traffic to/from ZRH.

SCL

Wishful thinking: SCL back from Swissair times, why not via GIG (scrapping the obsolete WK). LH group does not fly to Chile and GRU and EZE flights are full.

Asia and the Middle East are overrated, North America increasingly unfriendly and South America the future trend, business and leisure wise.

Well, 2 777Ws will get added to the fleet late 2020, creating a new (still unknown) long haul route. That was officially announced.

Really only 30%? I'd have thought a lot more.
