4h cnx twice at ZRH -- LX F lounges/chauffeur drive best plan?

Hi guys

Can you advise on the below please, based on your various experiences ?

I have two F flight tickets with 4h connecting/transferring through ZRH and I want to make best use / experience the two different LX F lounges at ZRH ...

Outbound routing : ARN-ZRH (SAS Plus codeshare, arrives ZRH 1840 local)
ZRH-HKG (LX F, departs 2240 local)

Inbound routing : HKG-ZRH (LX F, arrives ZRH 0630 local)
ZRH-ARN (SAS Plus codeshare, leaves ZRH 1030)

I don't think that I have time in either single 4h cnx to experience both A & E lounges properly? So I guess concentrate on one each time, bearing in mind the various likely arrival/departure gates for my routings etc ?

So: can which of A & E is best for those times of day at ZRH, the likely gate arrival and departures in each case .... also how best to guarantee the use of LX F chauffeur car drive ...

I wondered what you all thought my best plan could be to try and experience all different aspects of the LX F ground services across these two different cnx ?

Any advice/suggestions would obviously be much appreciated.

Cheers guys

G

To be honest: the lounge in E is always better.

Outbound: would make a quick stop at the lounge in A and ask to be driven to E soon.

Inbound: would go to E first, maybe make use of the day rooms for a nap and a shower, have breakfast there and then proceed to the lounge in A (no car though).

Welcome to flyertalk guymccr !

There is lots of information here in this forum on the FCL’s & transfer options, FCLE is vastly superior

Thanks so much for this advice -- obviously much appreciated. I will concentrate on E lounge on both occasions then.

In your opinion, are there any particular 'must-dos' at each of the lounges ? Anything other than the dayrooms, the terrace ... particular dishes in the restaurant in your experience?

With connecting ... I guess just passport control to get between the two lounges ... No security check for hand baggage ?

And is the chauffeur drive from A to E in a car ? I read somewhere it is a van (obviously hope not!)

Thanks again for your insights

A Lounge seems to only have grappa bar as only unique element ... while E lounge has better restaurant, also has terrace and dayrooms?

I did look around rest of the forum but it's tough in the lounge thread sticky to find relevant info as all the lounge discussions are in there ... So thought best to ask you guys directly for advice/insights on the F lounges at ZRH ?

I also really want to try Swiss First car service but seems like that is only available A to E ... and not other way around ?

Cheers

Will try to answer some of your questions:

A to E: no security, only passport check downstairs before you enter the vehicle (which is usually either a large Mercedes or a nice mini-van with individual seats — I prefer the van: better seats and view while you drive across the apron and through the tunnel)

must-dos: obviously depend on personal preferences, some suggestions for E: day-rooms with shower and bed and apron-view; champagne-bar (served throughout the lounge); escort to the SEN whisky bar for a brief visit (if you like whisky); restaurant: eggs Benedict, beef tartar, cheese fondue (!), local/Swiss specialties.

A: only worthwhile if you are a Grappa connoisseur; no apron view and no terrace; rather noisy

Enjoy!

You face a choice between the best lounge or the car/van transfer on the way back.

For the outbound it is easy, go to the FCL A and get a transfer to the E lounge. While you are at A, check out the lounge.

On the inbound, you can take the transfer to A straight from the plane, this will cause you to miss the FCL E, but also the train and passport control queue as you can use the booth at the bottom of A, like on the outbound. You spend the rest of the time in the FCL E.

Alterntively, you walk from the plane to the FCL at E, spend up to 3 hours there, then go through passport control and take the train to A to your connecting flight, Or leave earlier and spend another 30 min in the FCL A.

The FCL E is nicer and has a terrace but the FCL A also has showers and a decent breakfast.

Do you mean "A"? (marked in bold)

Indeed that should have read FCL A, well spotted. Thanks

This is how I'd do it:

After arriving from ARN in ZRH in Terminal A, walk to the First Class Lounge A (it is very well hidden). There you'll then be able to chill or eat but I'd suggest to request a limousine to drive you to E as soon as possible and then spend the remaining time in FCL E. Maybe check out one of the dayrooms if it's available.

On the return there will be two options: Either you'll be driven from the plane to the FCL A or you walk to the FCL E and then take the train over through the normal Passport Check and then spend some time in A before moving to the flight to ARN. I'd suggest to to take the car to A, even thought FCL E is superior to A, only because you get to walk on the Tarmarc right next to the plane when they pick you up :D (You may also have yourself driven to A and then driven back to E if you want, at least I did that after having breakfast in A. I then took the train back to A and directly went to the gate.)

PS: May I suggest you for next time to try and take the LX flights to ARN, I find the LX Business class product comapared to SAS Plus a lot superior.

Thank you all so much for your suggestions, hugely appreciated and great to have that knowledge from all of you!

I have now done the outbound routing and basically went with what was generally suggested , i.e. shorter stop first at FCL A for fruit brandies and a look around ...

Then incredibly I was able to get a private Mercedes car to FCL E instead of the planned van, just by asking! *Amazing* experience !

All the insights I received from you guys in particular about FCL E were spot-on, I thought it to be superior too. In my view, the a la carte selection there is better than LH FCT at FRA.

The dayrooms are so good (I managed to snag Montreux) and the terrace was actually cool to be out there to planespot for some minutes in the evening too. I hope to spend some more time there during my inbound.

I even got a shirt ironed while at FCL E. The lounge was not too busy so the staff were happy to make an exception with this. They also commented it is a strange anomaly that this isn't a usual service offered in LX FCL A & E, but it is standard service at LX Arrivals lounge! I guess that is because of more typical demand there ...

Again -- thank you all on here (worldclubber, chris63, MichielR) for your expert opinions and advice. It made such a difference to my outbound experience and I am sure it will again when I do the inbound!

Cheers

Thanks for this info Nick Art ! Really useful insights about the inbound in particular 👌

Yes agreed about LX Business ... I took SAS Plus in this case purely because the flight timings are better to/from ARN ... This allows longer cnx times at ZRH 😉

Well, that is quite an understatement. :D
