F award availability

I am debating achieving SEN staus this year. The entire point would be to book F tickets with SWISS. How is availability? I would book mostly, YUL/ORD/SIN/NRT routes, mostly one or two pax at a time. Also, I might book a trip for a group once, are 4 tickets on the same flight possible a few months in advance if the cabin is empty?

Also, can you book for others (i.e. book for a friend without me being on the flight)?

Thanks!

For SEN & HON award availability is good IME

2 pax fine but 4 would be hard.

You need to travel.

Availability really depends on the destination. LAX and SFO for example are very hard. Others like HKG are better when you have 3 or 4 days availability. 2 pax is doable, 4 likely extremely hard. Disadvantage: yo cannot book online, need to call. Also no waitlist for LX F awards.

Forgive my ignorance, I’ve not booked an LX F award yet.

If I want to book LX F I have to do so on the phone? I’m fairly certain I’ve been able to see LH F online...

Correct. LH you can book online. LX you have to call.

YUL typically has very good F availabilty, but then again it's a short flight so it's not really needed. And I find that the carrier surcharges on M&M awards in C/F are just outrageous.

I agree with that for sure. For now, J award tickets on Aeroplan are a great value with LX with the very low taxes. What's nice is that you can combine one with the other (one way award tickets). We will see what happens when Aeroplan crashes and burns in a few years.

I was expecting LAX/SFO indeed to be hard, regardless of how early one books. However, when booking early (10 months in advance), two seats were available almost any day. ^

Good to know, thanks.

Am I correct ion assuming that if an upgrade is available (M&M upgrade from a paid business ticket) than an F award is also available?

I do not think this is true. Having availability in booking class A is a good indicator for an C to F upgrade, but I experienced many times that there is no F award available even in cases where availability is F8A8. There are certain LX routes in particular days with a very high demand for paid F tickets and understandably LX is not releasing award seats (or upgrades) for these routes/days.
