ATC strike in GVA/LUG on July 23rd

(mods, feel free to merge with a more appropriate thread)

Apparently a strike has been called (article in French) for July 23rd 2018 by the ATC workers in GVA/LUG (or basically anywhere in Switzerland apart from ZRH).

Expect cancellations and delays if the strike actually goes through.

Same here, hope it gets resolved / doesn’t happen !

I read somewhere an interview with the Geneva airport spokesperson. He said that only flights that traverse Switzerland would be concerned, not starts and landings in Geneva.
However, not sure whether this is correct.

Also worth noting: Zurich airport is NOT concerned.

Strikes in Switzerland? What has the world become? What kind of sorcery is this?

Hope that turns out to be actually the case. Flights to and from ZRH kind of have to "traverse" at least parts of Switzerland, too.

And I probably the median ATC salaries in Switzerland are well above CHF 120k per year, if one includes all benefits.

Here is a data point, according to the employment office in Zurich:
ATC, 40 years, 10 years experience: 35h work week, 35 days vacation, 190k CHF p.a.

Looks better than working in a coalmine.

I hope you are not all implying that because they have a good job they shouldn't have the right to strike.

Besides, I wouldn't want to fly in a world where ATC makes minimum wage.

The UK royals also have a difficult job, but never threatened to go on a ribbon cutting strike

Strike is suspended:

(Switzerland being what it is, I suspect this will end up being resolved without a strike).

They're most likely all G permit holders (i.e. French) :D
