Should note that it's 3-to-1 only if you're on an A340. As with last winter, PVG is alternating between the A330/A340 randomly as a result of being 1 A340 short throughout the network, so overall the odds of getting a new A340 vs an old A340 or a330 is less than 3-to-1. Over the past week (11/13-11/19), it's been 4x A340 and 3x A330.

Seatguru has an A340 down for that day. Not sure how reliable they are any more these days.

I thought the A330 had the new F/C seats?

The A340 have all but one been refurbished, (with one being still refurbished right now). So the A340 has the newer First Class and the A330 First class will as soon as the last A340 with the very old First Class has been refurbished become the old First Class.

The age of the F class will then be
A340 B777 A330, although the A340 and B777 are very similar, while the A330 F class is still similar but is lacking features like the door or the very big screen.

It does (well, relatively new compared to the old A340) but the F cabin is closed when an A330 operates ZRHPVG and PVGZRH, as there is no adequate crew rest for a flight of this length.

Since I’ve booked F in December, do you think that a downgrade is possible?

Don't they just block 2G for crewrest? Had that on PEK-ZRH

No, ZRH-PVG is longer than PEK and JNB and therefore they need to block the whole cabin.

Nick Art beat me to it, but the only other correction is that they block 2K on PEKZRH.

The whole cabin needs to be blocked cuz it’s not just the pilots but also the flight attendants that don’t have a crew rest on the A330.

Turns out I’ll be flying the A330 on LX188 to PVG tomorrow.

And indeed, no F on this connection and plane, I just called the Senator hotline to see if I could use my vouchers for an upgrade but all of F is closed.

The cabin of the A330 also begins to show it's age, hence a replacement of the cabin would be in order to keep up the standards.

I‘d agree with your statement if you refer to the Economy Class and Business Class, the First Class is still certainly adequate, at least for me.

I’m ok with the A330 J cabin in most aspects, at least you have single seats. KL still squeezes in 6 per row.

The only thing that really puts me off is the small, low quality IFE screen, but I hardly find stuff to watch anymore anyhow.

That said this will be my first flight back with LX J after 6 consecutive legs in QSuites, let’s see how much I miss the door (let alone the service).
