LX40/01FEB ZRH-LAX diverted to YFB (Iqaluit, Nunavut)

Looks like LX40 ZRH-LAX diverted today to YFB (Iqaluit, Nunavut) - any ideas on the cause?

There's video...

Do you think they'll replace the 777 with the a330 for the next few weeks

What the video doesn't show is that the plane then got stuck in a snowdrift while trying to taxi off the runway. It took them over an hour to get it free. We were having nightmares of it being stuck there for days with none of the local flights being able to land or take off.

Haven't heard the A330 come in yet. Hope the passengers have been accommodated somewhere warm…

Apparently customs did not let them disembark into the terminal so they had to wait in the 777 and then in a bus before stepping into the 333. (read on VFT)

There would not have been room in the terminal at YFB for the pax load of a 777. Believe me, if I had to choose between standing around in that terminal with 300 other people for 6 hours and sitting in a plane on the tarmac for 6 hours, I would probably prefer to sit in the plane. There would also have been security/immigration issues since there isn't a customs barrier or any real "airside" area in the YFB building. It's basically just one big room and a tiny post-security holding pen for departing pax.

Although this kind of unscheduled landing of a large international flight does happen at YFB every so often, we aren't very well equipped to handle it I'm afraid...

Hope everyone on board has now safely made it to somewhere warmer.

"Iqaluit Mayor Madeleine Redfern tweeted that the passengers will disembark in shifts to eat and take a tour of the city before another plane arrives to take them to Los Angeles."

Guess the security/immigration services were to busy taking the moral high ground after the Trump ban to care about a Swiss passengers.

Also, seems more like sitting on the tarmac for at least 10 hours.
